Voice deepening surgery

    Hi everyone,

This might not strictly be the exact place to post this, but I think there might be some on here who might have experience on this.

I am wondering if any of you FtM (or even male) have undergone voice deepening surgery?

My voice is quite feminine and I am considering having it deepened via surgery...essentially they use a laser to make some incisions on your vocal cords, which results in lower tension on the cords..kind of like turning the pegs on a guitar to lower the pitch of the string.

I have been talking to Kursat Yelkin on whatsapp about the surgery, he has quoted me €2,500 which seems reasonable to me.

There is a video here which shows the before and after results, it seems impressive:

    youtube.com/watch?v=CAzhvHyonZs

So if any of you are familiar with this, can you advise me please on the pros and cons of this.

My main concern is this: would my voice and vocal range still sound the same, but with a lower pitch? I know that there is a trade off that if you get surgery for a lower voice, you lose some volume...and I'm ok with that.

    Thanks in advance

    Hey

Sorry, only seen this now. I have never heard of surgery for deepening the timbre of your voice - I have several stories of the opposite, however.

From what I hear, the surgery is kinda risky, though, I believe techniques have improved. But again, this is my extent of knowledge on vocal chord surgery, and it's based on surgery aimed at AMAB trans.

I would be wary of any surgery, to be honest. Vocal training, a **** tonne of cigarettes and bourbon would be my advice. or a healthier option might be checking out vocal training videos on Youtube. I'm sure you'll find some useful tips at lowering your tone naturally, without surgery. As well as that, I would ask how long you have been on HRT? It takes time. Not an over-night change. You really should have been advised of this by your endo, to be honest. Which leads me to my last point: Your question regarding will you still have a similar wide vocal range post op or not? Well, to be frank with you, if your surgeon hasn't clarified these things for you already, then he hasn't done his job correctly. Ethically questionable. Would advise caution going forward with anyone showing such incompetence. My educated guess would be, that yes it will limit your vocal range.

Other than that, I wish you well.
