    Welcome to the Sligo Forum!

    New to boards.ie? Click here!

This forum is for threads that are either directly or indirectly related to Sligo Town and County. However, a Sligo Forum Community has been established, and as such light hearted banter between members is common and acceptable as long as it does not interfere with the course of a thread. General, civil debate is allowed. We encourage off topic general discussion to take place in the stickied thread reserved for this purpose.

The moderators for the Sligo Forum are Miamee and Byte.

If you have a problem with a post

Please report it. Moderators are not around all the time, but they get an email when someone reports a post. It's like the bat signal for moderators.
    • If you have a problem with a post, use the "Report Bad Post" link (it's marked on the left side of each post with a report.gif symbol) to report it to the moderators. Do not take it on yourself to regulate the forum.

    • If you have a problem with an action of the moderators, the steps are as follows:
    • PM them directly to discuss it
    • If that fails, PM all of the moderators to discuss it
    • If that fails, PM the Category Moderator (Region Cmods are @Gaspode and @Fathom
    • If that fails, take it to the Help Desk forum, where it will be dealt with and seen by the admins.
Along the way, it might be determined that it's not so much a problem with a moderator as with the moderation itself; in which case you may need to take it up on the Feedback forum. At any rate, please remember that there are hundreds of thousands of users on boards.ie and the number of complaints can be quite high; so go through the steps. It alleviates the strain on the CMods and Admins, which adds to the merit of your complaint.

This is a privately owned website. You do not have the right to say whatever you want on here. You are expected to obey the rules just like anyone else. Not following the rules will get you banned. There is no free speech.

What type of topics can be posted in this forum?

In its purest form, this forum is for topics relating to Sligo Town and County. However, any other issue that is topical and is related to or affects members in the Sligo forum or the community in general is fine. If in doubt about a topic, please PM a mod before posting it.

    Political Discussion

Whilst not always encouraged, it will be allowed if relevant, for example, local/council/national elections. Discussion should be restricted to local candidates and issues. Any more should be taken to the Political forums.

    Advertising/Shills

Unsolicited posts of an advertising nature will be both edited and locked and user banned. If you register a new account and/or resurrect an old thread with the simple aim to advertise your business, this will also be deemed "unsolicited". If you wish to buy ad space, contact advert@boards.ie

    Libel/Defamation:

Do not post anything that can be considered as being libellous. This includes naming and shaming businesses, or any attacks on persons in the community or public eye. All such comments could lead to court proceedings against boards.ie and thus will not be tolerated.

    Going “Off Topic”

Posts that stray off topic will be edited or deleted, depending on their relevance to the topic at hand. People who ignore a moderator's request to stay on topic may receive infractions or be banned.

    Phone numbers

Posting other peoples’ phone numbers is a bankable offence. You should never post your own number on a thread as it is not guaranteed to be safe. Any posted numbers will be deleted on sight.

    Txt Spy

Is highly discouraged. As with anything, if a poster continues to use txt speak after being warned, they may receive infractions or be banned.

    Grammar/Spelling Nazis

We’re not all blessed with perfect spelling and grammar, some of us may be dyslexic, some don’t bother with a spell check as they see the forum as an informal place, etc. If a thread is legible, no need to point the mistakes out, as an infraction or banning may occur.

    Personal Abuse

Posters who abuse others on here will be banned.

    Racism/Discrimination

If your comment/insult/argument/debate is based on someone's nationality, race, colour, membership of any minority then it's not acceptable. Posters who repeatedly post like this will be banned.

    Pointless Threads and Polls

    Will be deleted.

    Trolls

Will be shot banned on sight.

Issues with the moderation of the forum

    1) Do not argue on thread.
    2) PM the mod(s). We will be happy to discuss the issue with you.
    3) If you remain unsatisfied, you are free to create a thread in Feedback or Help desk. (Only SMod's/Admins and the moderators of the forum can reply to you in the helpdesk forum. In feedback any boards users will be able to give their opinion)

If you register a new account to circumvent a ban - this will get all your accounts site-banned.
