    Hi guys.
I have done this type of test before. You need to sit this test using a pc or laptop... with regard to practice tests there is only one place you can practice , but even then, there are only 2 full length tests and you have to pay. I have seen at least 2 assessment training places where they promise cut e style tests, but dont actually deliver on it. I have actually asked one test provider for a refund.

I just did the numerical assessment. Christ, that was a quick 12 mins! I think I got 22 out of 37 done, but it said at the beginning that I wouldn't get all of them done, so I'm not too worried. Hopefully quality answers over quantity count :pac: Fairly got my adrenaline going when I was watching that clock ticking down though!

I got 29 of the number ones one and feck all of the verbal reasoning I think only about 30 too 🙄😓

Similar experience. I was left wondering if it were humanly possible to finish either test - and it did little for my self-confidence. But I think we are all in the same boat. As they said, we would not be able to finish it all.

    Just did it now.

Found the numerical reasoning and chat assess to be fine. Struggled hugely with verbal reasonbing. It's very hard to decipher what exactly you're being asked and just as hard figuring out where the answer is. I think I should have broadly read contents of each tab before starting to answer questions but I just jumped straight in.

I'm hoping the numerical reasoning and chat assess were strong enough to pull me through.

Just did numerical reasoning. Can I just ask did you find you were using the cannot say feature a lot?

I'd say I used it 5 or 6 times but as far as I know everyone gets asked different questions so some people may get asked questions that require that response more often

Is it the same type of test as for EO

  • Registered Users Posts: 356 ✭✭AtticusFinch86

Different scenarios but same type of test yes.

I can't recall. I guess I was trying to move on and focus on the next question again and again - so it is a blur rather than a memory. And like Atticus says above, we could all be getting different questions.

What's important now is to not dwell on it. There'll probably be a week or two before we know anything. Dissecting answers will just drive you crazy at this stage.

Last time Revenue ran a similar competition I asked about negative marking. They said they wouldn't tell me, only to answer as many correctly as possible, so I am guessing they do employ negative marking although why they wont say is odd.

I was the same for a lot of them I didn’t think they were straight forward answers 🙈😓 I just jumped straight in too. Any one know how long before results come out

Definitely not before Friday anyway. It all depends on how fast they want to move this along.

Was it even possible to move onto the next question without giving an answer though?

Hopefully it will be Friday and they won't keep us in suspense for too long but I also won't be suprised if it was a few weeks. There wasn't any information in the email about next steps and it seems that the results issue quickly for stages when the dates are in for the next steps or at least that has been my experience.

    Best of luck everyone

I applied for this AO Role and did the aptitude tests end of last week. My issue is my Degree is a Business Level 8 specialising in Marketing but I am currently sitting my ACA exams Cap 2. Passed all 5 CAP1 last year. Would this still suffice for the role of Audit & Compliance.

Also does anyone know if they offer study leave or I can transfer training contract if I was to get a position?

    Cheers

The key thing to assess (for yourself) is do you possess the level 8 qualification for the panel you applied for. The organisation that conferred you may be able to answer that.

It is the civil service. I would imagine that things like the shorter working year may be suitable options for study leave; however the timing of such leave needs to suit the department you'd be working in.

I think the best thing would be to ask revenue. A marketing specialism may not be enough but the accounting exams would probably put you at the same level as a graduate who specialised in accounting for their business degree.

I don't know anything about the training contract transfer or study leave. You'd have to discuss that with the institute and revenue.
As another poster mentioned the shorter working year would be good for the study leave but that is unpaid and depends on the department.

Just completed there now.... Not sure what to make of it.

Didn't get anywhere near finishing any of the first two tests. And I'd say I got a fair share of them incorrect that I did do.

Chatassess didn't seem too bad. Probably didn't realise I had as much spare time in that one, but it's done now. Handy for the experience I suppose.

Not holding breath though for a call forward.

Is there anyone in the know about how many jobs are available? The only figure I could find was 38 taken on in 2017.seems like a very long shot then.

There was also a competition last year (AO 2018)

You can never know with these things. If I recall correctly, in the small print of the info booklet there was also the line that applicants may end up with a job offer outside of revenue.

The thing is that each year presents different resource challenges. Retirements, resignations, Brexit and process changes may all present opportunities. And there is no guarantee that the 37 in 2017 came off any particular AO panel (remember there are 4) or from any particular geographical location.

It is also worth remembering that the 37 hired are not necessarily the top 37 - people turn down job offers based on other opportunities etc.

In short; we can only have hope. The determining facts have not yet arisen.

Thanks I had seen that but there doesn't seem to be any info available for the amount taken off that panel. I just read the 38 figure off another thread.

Thanks for this reply I understand I just thought maybe that they had an estimate of likely retirements or anything. There's an element of luck involved too someone could finish top of the panel and the region you select might not have any vacancies at all or may be filled from a different panel.

The wait is on anyway. Goodluck to all.

Approx 80 AOs commenced roles in 2019 probably from 2018 competition. Approx half were EOs being promoted and half new external recruits.

Do you have any information on locations of appointments?

I know someone in a similar position to yourself only they are doing Acca with a business degree ! They contacted before applying asking if they were suitable and told they were not ! That you had to hold a specific degree ! In previous competitions a business degree met the criteria !

If you do happen to over come this , you will be able to finish ACA in revenue you can apply for sponsorship or else pay yourself and get a refund one you pass
