    New Year.
    New Decade.
New List of Games to Beat.

For those who have been here you all know the drill.

For newbies, it's quite obvious: Pop in here to share what games you managed to beat or fully complete this year. Compile a list if you wish. You'll be surprised by how many games you can beat in 12 months.

I think Jedi Fallen Order is imminent for me, as I'm nearing the end of the main campaign. I'll probably be back soon to cement it.

Happy New Year and Happy Gaming!

GAME Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
    PLATFORM Xbox One

I saw this game's reveal on one of the press conferences last year (or the year before I cant recall) and it did nothing to interest me. Generic Jedi game that looked little different to the rest of them, and with EA punishing very mediocre Star Wars games the last few years, I wasn't that interested.

I got it bundled with my Xbox One X on Xmas there last week so I thought I might as well try it since I have it now. No excuse

Sure enough I played the first few hours and I wasn't really enjoying it at all. I tried at least 2 hours per day from last week but I felt nothing was sticking. I took a break for a whole day before deciding to go back to it and then the loop kicked in.

It very much plays like a Metroidvania-style of game, in that more of its areas and secrets open up the more you play, and some features are completely locked off until you progress more. I sound like I'm describing a lot of games but I can at least see where the Dark Souls comparisons come into it, minus the barrier-of-entry difficulty. Don't get me wrong, though, Fallen Order is no simple game. It takes a lot of time to get the hang of the combat but once you do it is bloody satisfying. It did get ridiculous a few times for me personally, to the point where I had to bring the difficulty down one (I started in the second hardest setting).

Also, lots of new faces added to the universe and one or two familiar ones I won't spoil here.

This entry into the Star Wars video game series took me by surprise, considering EA's dirty fingers were on it. Thankfully none of their practices are in this game (no microtransactions, no monetisation of any kind). And the game is not unfair in the slightest. Respawn developed a well polished, solid action game

My only issue was the visual performance. The game did jitter for me a few times. I'm on the Xbox One X, and I was surprised to find out that people preferred it in quality mode as it keeps a more consistent frame rate as opposed to performance mode, which the frame rate, while unlocked, is not stable at all - almost gave me a headache.

Nevetheless it isn't even remotely game breaking. I recommend this game. Even if you're not a Star Wars fan you can still pick this up and not need to really worry about the wider lore of the franchise. This stands very well on its own two feet.

It surprised me. And I'm happy I stuck with it.

First game of 2020 completed is Outlast. I had actually started it months ago but stopped playing when I got fed up with the chasing sections. I really enjoyed the game this time though. Great visuals and some good scares, it's a really good horror game. I'm looking forward to playing the sequel now since it was on PS Plus recently.

This year im going to play all my games right up to moments before the end then stop and move on to another game. Then in the 2021 thread im going to come in hard with about 42 games and beat everyone

A few years back I played the Borderlands 1 and 2 over the Christmas and entered them into the new year thread.

    Borderlands GOTY edition.
    Borderlands 2 GOTY edition.
You got both Borderlands with all DLC done in less then 3 days thats nuts :O.

Took me about 2 weeks to get Borderlands 2 GOTY done on the Vita with the DLC had like 46 euros game time done on it

Did you do any of the side missions at all ?.
Actually now that I think of it they should have gone into 2014. As I completed them in December and a bit of January. I done nearly all of the side missions in the first, except the impossible ones (the ones they give after you finish) and the collect 100 zombie heads. I put 65 hours into first and roughly the same into second. Did not complete Big game hunt DLC found it too difficult at the beginning. Might go back to it.

Also I went back later and completed Big game hunt.

Completed Letter Quest Remastered. Again I started it months ago when it was free with PS Plus. In reality it's a phone game where you have to create words from a bunch of letters to defeat monsters. It's perfect for a hungover Sunday.

Got 2 done so far this year,

    1. - What Remains of Edith Finch, a lovely experience, and can be done in about 3 hours, got it on gamepass and would highly recommend seeing this very sad story through.
    2. - Call Of Duty Modern Warfare - a return to form, with a campaign that moves along at a quick pace, with some very well realised set pieces / scripted moments dotted throughout.

next up - The Witcher 3 expansions - I noted last night, that my last save was back in 2016 when I finished the main game!

First completion of the year goes to Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U.
Took a wee while to click with me but I enjoyed the over the top action. And while there are a lot of enemies at time, it never feels like shooting/fighting galleries as some games do.

    Metro Exodus - Ps4

First of the year from me was Control on the PC.

Good game but i thought the ending was rubbish.

Edit : Just finished Assassins Creed Odyssey too. Got the good ending which was a letdown.
I think they really need to revamp the series for the next one. The formula is too stale to be of relevance these days.

    Wolfenstein: The New Order

Played through about 75% or 80% of the game in early 2019 and decided to finally complete the rest over the weekend.
Not sure what to make of it. Felt much better over the weekend but that could also be attributed to the fact it was near the end and I took a break away from it.

Sum it up: It was alright. Doom 2016 is a much better game.

I was looking to play a short RPG so I decided to play Costume Quest 2 as it had good reviews and was available on PS Now. I usually hate turn based games and had I known this was turn based I probably wouldn't have played it but I must admit I found it fun. It was an easy game but enjoyable through and full of little jokes. Recommended.

    Kingdom Hearts 3 for me.

I struggle to think of a game I've disliked more in recent years. Every thing about it annoyed me, especially the frequency of the cut scenes and the nonsense story they revealed.

    Just to finish off 2019:

    Gears of War 4

It's... Grand. Nothing particularly mind blowing but not amazing either. Initially starts off really boring with annoying and not very fun robots to fight before getting a lot better when different enemies are introduced. Awful, awful ending but then I wasn't too invested. By the end I was just playing through to wrap it up.

    AM2R: Another Metroid 2 Remake

A fan remake of Metroid 2, and an absolutely amazing one at that. Seriously impressive game and all the more impressive that it's a free fan made game. I'd rank this well above the official Nitendo remake of Samus returns

Nothing so far in 2020 but working on it.

I started Metro Last Light Redux in December but only finished it last night, I enjoyed it but it is essentially the exact same game as Metro 2033 redux bar the storyline which is not particularly interesting anyway.

    GAME My Friend Pedro
    PLATFORM Xbox One

This was a really fun game. I absolutely love the mechanics they put into it. Every kill you do makes you go "whoa that was really cool!!". I highly recommend it, and if you're on Xbox, it's available on Game Pass, which is how I played it.

I really like games made in this way - games that can be played in short bursts but yet can still provide a lot of gameplay out of it in that time. I could've easily beaten this in a day if I had the time, but I was happy to do it over 2 days. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and it has just enough in it that it never gets stale or repetitive. It's the right amount of content for a game like this.

    Kicking things off

Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing

I know everyone prefers the sequel transformed but the first game by Sumo Digital is an excellent kart racer. While it's not as good as Mario Kart, there's a few dodgy track designs and some annoying physics bugs rear their head every now and again, it's still a worthy contender and far better than more celebrated games like the mediocre Crash Team Racing. The drifting feels so good in this game, very much like Outrun 2. Plenty of Sega fan service as well. The DS game is actually way better and better than Mario Kart on that system.

    GAME Untitled Goose Game
    PLATFORM Xbox One

What can I say about this, really? Lol

Silly game on the surface. But it's surprisingly well-crafted and the puzzles it presents are not half bad. It wasn't overly difficult - I did have to look up how to do one thing but that was very early into it. I got the general jist of it going forward and didn't have much difficulty with it.

My only wish was that it was a little longer, although, I suppose it's made up by the fact it does give you more objectives once you beat the main portion, which is where I'm at now, but they do involve exploring the same areas. It's one of those games where I rolled credits and craved more. So I do hope the devs make another game like it in future. As meme-heavy this is, it's still a fairly solid puzzle game. I enjoyed it more than I thought.

Once again if you have an Xbox and are curious, it's on Game Pass, if you're subscribed.

Otherwise i don't think it's even expensive. I say give it a go. It really surprised me.

    First completion of the year:

Fire Emblem: Three Houses - Fantastic, legitimately one of the best games I have ever played. Had I completed this last year, it would almost certainly have been my game of the year. I usually avoid tactical RPG's like the plague and had never played a FE game prior to TH. This felt like a great jumping on point for newbies such as myself as the difficulty curve is very gradual, and the first half of the game is quite forgiving on the default difficulty setting. On top of that, the battles in this game are really only half the experience. You play a professor teaching at what is effectively a military academy, and much of your time is spent socialising and building up relationships with your students, who also function as your units in battle. There is an almost Persona type feel to it, and it helps you get invested in the narrative and the characters on a level that few games manage to achieve. Highly recommended, especially if like me, you find the genre daunting.

Currently dipping between super mario odyessy which is a joy to play and death stranding, which with charm is not as much fun to be honest. Only on chapter 3 and am finding it a real slog.

Final Fantasy X (PC) Technically brilliant at the time and a massive leap on from IX, but with a weird story, annoying lead character and awful voice acting it's a disappointment. Also, F*%k the sphere grid and F*&k blitzball.
Medal of Honor: European Assault (XBOX) A more modern feeling game than previous titles, it's a great (if short) campaign. Need to did out my other MoH games now.
Project Gotham Racing 2 (XBOX) Kinda weird in that some cars and tracks are p**s easy and others will tear you a new A*&^%$£e. great game though.

It's a fan favourite but I feel it gets away with an awful lot because it was the first decent RPG on the PS2. There's loads of problems. The battle system is bad in random encounters, the game is just as linear as the maligned FF13, the story isn't all that great in retrospect and the post game is rushed and awful. It's one of the weaker FF games imo.
