Plastic bag levy/tax: there was an instant alternative , brilliant.
Sugar tax: instant incentive for corporations to lower sugar and instant alternative available for the public, brilliant.
Carbon tax applied to fuel: instant alternative avail....oh hang on

Didn’t hear anything about taxing farmers for their contribution to the carbon emissions, ie cattle , maybe I missed it.

There was none, the carbon tax hike won't be applied to Green diesel either.

I can see there being a big shock for people when they go to sell their EV car. It's grand when it's a couple years old I'm sure but take a look at cars 6/7 years old.

This 6 year old leaf has only 25k miles done and is being advertised for €10,250.

How much did a new leaf cost in 2013? What, 30k at least? So 20k loss and only 25k miles done.
A car loses half it's value every three years generally.

So a car €30k new you'd expect to be €7.5k after 6 years, so the leaf is doing well in that front. In fact, the values of used electrics have been holding up pretty well (even increasing) as there is a real shortage of them at older end of the market.

Selective carbon tax then. Nothing to do with the environment really , its just another tax. All tax is selective one way or another. This doesn’t appear much different. Minister must be delighted with all the green protests.

The minister as with the rest of the political establishment are more delighted with Brexit as it takes away attention from their incompetence and lack of forward thinking.
There was no measures introduced to deal with large polluters. All these measures are targeted at the populace not business.

I mean that when it's time to change your car, it's going to be increasingly more economical to opt for an EV

If youre looking for a compact saloon or small hatchback.

There are no affordable widely adopted luxury saloons, SUV's, estates etc... that are EV.

A 2013 focus would cost around 12.5k and that's with 100k kilometres on it.

This car has 25k miles....it's done nothing.

It looks back to front but the plan is to take some of that tax and use it for that alternative path.

No way a 2013 Focus goes for 12.5k lol

Unless it has some sort of buzz light year wings and can fly - even at that I sincerely doubt it goes for 12.5k.

Noticed they tapped the markets for €2 billion for green projects on top of the carbon tax https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2019/1010/1082301-ntmas-green-bond-sale/

Well it'll be evident pretty quickly if they don't! That said there's a logic to finding a source of funding for continuing incentives.
