ok. Bhuel...táim saghas cleachta le "let's suppose" a chur in áit "what if" i nGaeilge, bíodh nach bhfuil an bhrí céanna acu...an bhfuil? xD

mar shampla, "cur i gcás nach bhfuil sé fuar" = "let's suppose it's not cold"
anois, cén Ghaeilge atá ar "what if it wasnt cold" ? ní dóigh liom gur an chéad cinn atá ann lol

An bhfuil canúint ar leith agat? Níl mé cinnte cén chanúint lena mbaineann sé.

"agus mura mbeadh sé fuar?" Níl gá leis an "what if" a aistriú go díreach i mo thuairim!

Gaeilge BÁC, má tá a leithéid ann

Fuaimníonn "mura" aisteach dom mar an leagan caighdeánach, sin an méid.

Sa Chaighdeán Oifigiúil, ní bhaineann riail DNTLS le haidiachtaí (is aidiacht í díreach). Ach chloisfeá bean deas i nGaeilge na Mumhan.

An bhfuil fhios ag aon duine conas "It/that would be a dream come true" as Gaeilge ag úsáid an módh choinneallach? Táim ag iarraidh é a rá má chuireann an scrúdaitheoir ceist orm sa bhealthuiscint don Árdteist faoin gcrannchur náisiúnta a bhuachaint.
Go raibh maith agaibh.

Fíorú brionglóide a bheadh ann dá mbuafainn an crannchur náisiúnta
- It would be a dream come true if I won the national lottery.

I gcás na copaile, cad é an difríocht idir "Is..é/Ba..é" agus "Is ea/ab ea"?

Déarfá:

  • Is é Enda an Taoiseach / Ba é Brian an Taoiseach.
  • Is polaiteoir é Enda / Ba pholaiteoir é Enda.
  • Polaiteoir is ea Enda / Polaiteoir ba ea Enda.

An bhfreagraíonn sé sin an cheist?

Mar, go praicticiúil, ciallaíonn Is é agus Is ea é an rud céanna? Ceart go leor.

An bhféadfá a rá "Is an Taoiseach é Enda"?

Agus an gciallaíonn ba ea agus ab ea an rud céanna, ach is as canúintí iad?

Gura míle.

"Is é an taoiseach é" means "He's the taoiseach" as though somebody has asked "Cé hé sin?", and you were giving a plain answer.

"An taoiseach is ea é" means "he's the taoiseach", emphasising his job, and that he's not the tánaiste, for example.

===

Btw, when you don't use the article, you just say "Is taoiseach é". When you do use it, you say "'Sé an taoiseach é", or probably more commonly "An taoiseach atá ann".

Conas a scríobhtar an ghiorrúchán do throigh agus d'orlach?

As Béarla, deirtear "I'm 6ft 2" in height", mar shampla. An ndéarfaí "Táim 6tr 2or in airde" as Gaeilge?

Ní fhaca mé a leithéid riamh, seachas 6'2" a scríobh.
