I want to see Skyfall on screen 1 in the Savoy (Dublin) tomorrow night. It says there are shows at 8pm and 9.10pm. Does anyone know which screening will be in screen 1? I would imagine it's the 8pm show but if someone could confirm it that would be great...
The 8pm showing is in Screen 1. It says on the website when you go to book tickets.

You can see what screen it's showing in by clicking the time of the showing on savoy.ie, then selecting 1 ticket and clicking confirm. It'll show you there.

Thanks folks. I did try and call them but no answer. I'm not sure I'll actually be able to make it for the 8pm now, is screen 2 still a decent size?

    Brilliant film.

Wont say too much until after its official release but I loved it. Dare I say it the best Bond movie?

Eva Green was nice to look at, but apart from that it was standard fare, the Bourne's really stole Bond's thunder(ball?) around that time.

You must be the Man With The Golden Pun!

Once I hit my teens I lost all interest in the classic Bonds movies, sure I thought Goldeneye was cool when I saw it in the cinema, but then came Tomorrow Never Dies with a completely bizarre plot to take over the worlds news!

Casino Royale was excellent though, my favourite Bond movie at any given time, and one of my favourite movies of the past decade.
It had some great set-pieces and some of the dialogue between Craig and Green was superb, particularly the on the train.
If Skyfall is anywhere near as good, I'll be more than impressed

I enjoyed it very much this afternoon. I recommend it to everyone.

I thought the controlling the news aspect of TND was pretty good, and relevant, just Pryce was a weak villain.

Totally agree especially with the news moguls of the past 20 years.

    really enjoyed it.
I really liked that it was a smaller story - no plans to blow up the world by an evil genius, just one guy with a grudge who wanted to get back at M. That I really liked. Not to say it skimped on action, travelling, and hot chicks. A couple of things annoyed me - Bardem's breakout scene reminded me of the Joker in the Dark Knight and a number of other minor little things that didn't get in the way of my overall enjoyment of the film. Well worth a watch

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,329 ✭✭✭niallon

Do I get to be the first hater?!?! :p No I kid. It is good, no disputing that, but I'm sure I won't be the only one to say that firstly, it is far longer than it needs to be and secondly that the comparisons with The Dark Knight cannot be avoided.

    First of all,
The entire plot is essentially the same, a villain who doesn't give two s**ts about order or structure and whos presence creates chaos, with M and MI6 coming under scrutiny, very Batman villain style messages tied to Bardem's cyber attacks etc. etc. As mentioned already, his breakout and his time in holding are very very Joker-esque. It's also, like The Dark Knigh, where we finally get to another layer of Bond, the trauma of Skyfall, the emotion shown for M, the slight vulnerabilities. This is not a bad film to be copying, don't get me wrong, but given how much Casino Royale learned from Batman Begins, it seems a little too much for this to draw so heavily from TDK.
My only other main gripe is the amount of stupid and simplistic plot holes and character errors, ones that Casino Royale had seemingly erased from the series:

    - When Harris shoots Bond at the start, both she and him are wearing ear pieces linked straight back to MI6. Bond references later that he heard M say "Take the bloody shot" as he was fighting on board the train. If he could hear that, and I'm not taking the piss, could he not then have heard Naomi Harris say "Duck", "Move left/right" "Turn him to me" or anything along those lines? No?

    - Another comes when M is at the hearing and decides to remain even after finding out the threat on her life. The resulting deaths in that hearing are entirely her fault, someone of her rank and in the organisation that long would never remain in situe and put an entire board room at risk. Never

    - Eh......Why exactly did we lure Bardem out to Scotland? Fair enough, Fiennes points out the isolation tactic....but why not just BLEEDING FIND HIM IN LONDON and hang onto him this time. That whole plan and execution happened far too quickly and I should also think Bond would face serious repercussions for essentially kidnapping the head of MI6 command and thus leading directly to her death.

    - Finally, in her position I would assume M rose from a police or military background? Bad shot or not, nobody with that background would hold a gun anything like that!!!!!!

I could go on with the above rant all night but at the end of the day there's no point, if you're looking for them you will always find issues and faults with a movie's story so I'll leave it be. Essentially though, I enjoyed the film and liked that the lighthearted touches were brought back and for the most part fit, though some were slightly forced. See, afterwards myself and my dad could both only explain moments like the above by saying the tried and trusted "But sure it's a Bond film". But its not supposed to be. Casino Royale stretched reality a bit alright, but at no point did I really find myself having to say "Well its a Bond film"

Some bits I loved though were:
    - The Shanghai silhouette fight, albeit too brief!
    - The reveal of the classic DBS, brilliant!
    - The casino with the Komodos, classic bond henchman demise done for the 21st century!
    - The score throughout, finally using the theme song throughout the movie in subtle ways whilst also realising the effectiveness of the Bond theme too.

What I didn't like is that the realistic aspects of Bond have been hindered somewhat by the amount of OTT and very out of character/reality moments in the script.

All in all a solid flick though, and Javier Bardem is fantastic, actually manages to be hammy in an understated performance, very much in a good way.

Just back so i'll add a more complete synopsis later.
Firstly I really enjoyed it but with few small gripes condensed down
-After the opening sequence(which I thought was fantastic) I thought it dragged out a bit for a good well at least until Bardem came into it and re-ignited my interest in it again.
-Thought there were alot of jokes, ppl were in stiches over them in the cinema whereas I liked them just to not to that extent, basically it didn't need as many, weird thing I know but thats just me
-Didn't mind the whole batman thing

    Superb film. Will see again.

I simply adored this. For me its as good as The living Daylights, which is my fav (time will tell).
Its not perfect, but nothing I cant forgive. Will certainly watch again!

Just back from it, overall really liked it, few minor gripes, but its certainly one of the best blockbusters this year.

    first off the gripes:
The komodo dragon scene, awful, cgi lizards? Bond climbing over one ala Roger Moore? Live And Let Die was made in the 70's and had real crocodiles at least. Completely against everything the Craig films have been so far. Was a throwback that really wasnt needed.

Too many throwbacks full stop, they basically went full circle and back to everything that they moved away from in Casino Royale. M's old office, Moneypenny, Q, ejector seat gag and bad oneliners aplenty.

Its about 15-20 minutes too long, that whole thing with Bardems private island was kinda pointless

    The good,and excellent.

    The pre-credits sequence is fantastic.
Bardem is excellent, hammy as hell but clearly having a ball with it.
Craig is great, he's made the role his own.
The musical score is excellent throughout, Thomas Newman did a great job.
Its looks GORGEOUS, seriously see this on the biggest screen you can find, one of the best looking films of the year, really goes to show what having a great visual director like Mendes can add to a film like this, the scenes in Shangai were beautifully shot.
The action is very well done, lot less of the shaky cam overedited stuff that made QOS impossible to tell what was happening a lot of the time.

so yeah, overall I really enjoyed it, few niggles but as far as Bond movies go its right up there in the top ones.

Funnily enough Krudler, your second gripe was one of the reasons I loved it so much.

Oh there were definitely throwbacks I loved, the
Aston Martin reveal which got a huge "wheyyy!" from the audience I saw it with. The exploding pen, or lack thereof, joke. I just thought bringing all the stuff CR had moved away from is putting Bond back in the territory that made it stale to begin with.

Really liked this, hated QoS so was unsure about this but it's up there with Casino Royale as my favourite. Finally having a decent villain in Bardem and all the little throwback were great. The
old score for the reveal of the Aston Martin was special
    .
Certain things like the CGI lizards were not needed at all and also some dodgy fx during
bike chase scene at the start

Hmm, I thought this was the worst of the Craig movies to be honest.
My biggest gripes were some stuff that didn't make sense. The main one has already been mentioned.
We know that Bond still had his earpiece towards the end of the sequence on the train so why didn't she just tell him to get out of the way.
    Another one was the
lady with the tattoo showing she worked in the sex industry. You would think she'd have had it removed!
There were also a number of bad one liners.
The one about "the circle of life" springs to mind.
It also felt like a low(er) budget movie although according to Wikipedia is was $150m, slightly more than Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol.
I guess I just wasn't blown away with the locations.

Things I liked about it... Although some
of the throwbacks were a little bit naff, I can understand why they went in this direction. I guess with it being the 50th anniversary... It was interesting to get a little more detail about Bond's past.
I would see Skyfall as a kind of a link to the next few installments.
We've got a new M, Moneypenny and Q. I would anticipate/hope that going forward they will get a good balance between these classic aspects of Bond, and the aspects of the last couple of movies which helped revitalise the franchise.
They seemed to be setting up a sort of storyline in CR and QoS with an organisation analogous to SPECTRE/Blofeld. I hope this is developed in the next couple of movies rather than 24 and 25 being 'standalone' sort of plots.

You people are crazy. This film was awful. We got lucky with Casino Royale it seems. James Bond has completely returned to derivative nonsense with this and Quantum of Solace. I went not expecting much going in but I was shocked to be disappointed further. So much money getting poured into this and they can't hire some half decent writers. I cringed at the ending and thought that this is the last time I will see James Bond in the cinema. Not for me

I thought it was very enjoyable. Managed to see the 8pm show in Savoy screen 1 which I hadn't thought I'd be able to do so that certainly added to the whole thing. Great atmosphere and it's been a while since I had to queue to get into the cinema!

I loved the fact that so much of it
was set on Bond's home patch, the London scenes in particular were excellent

As someone else said previously it dragged on a bit from after the initial action sequences until Silva's introduction but I don't think the film suffered too much as a result.

I loved some of the throwbacks especially
when Bond threatened to eject M from her seat!
    . The
interrogation scene was also quite funny, Bardem really played it up brilliantly. However, when the house blew up the explosion took out a huge chunk out of the surrounding area, there was no way Silva could have survived that!

    I wasn't a huge fan of
Judi Dench in the series (how many bloody times has she used the word 'bloody'?) so I wasn't too unhappy when she kicked the bucket. And Ralph Fiennes will make a superb M
    .

Not as good as Casino Royale but way better than Quantum Of Solace and any of the Brosnan films. I'd give it 7.5 out of 10.
