    Serpentine supplemented - 16 runners.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,625 ✭✭✭RivetingRoger

Serpentine running could destroy the race for Enable
I am not sure she is winning this
Sottsass could be the beneficiary here, but I am still on Mogul

I think Love is Coolmore's bullet for a slow run race and Serpentine is the bullet for a strong run race. You would think that Serpentine must look more impressive than Mogul at home though...

The opposite according to AOB on the FF Podcast a few weeks back
He was all over Mogul, said he was making fools of everyone else in the yard with the ease with which he was doing things
AOB is VERY sweet on Mogul

Battash 5/4 AGAINST in the Abbeye....

Not that suited to swimming 5 furlongs. Hope he wins though

Looks like Love will be pulled due to the ground. Shame.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,625 ✭✭✭RivetingRoger

Talk of pulling Love puzzles me
She has won with S in the description before, what are they afraid of?
After today she will only have one more race this year at most, in America
Surely the Arc takes precedence, and, with Serpentine in the race, they could still do a Derby on it and run it to suit her
I mean, I have not been in Paris lately of course, is the track THAT bad.....??

Imagine the mug on Frankie if Stradivarius beats Enable!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,092 ✭✭✭The Tetrarch

 I said I was going to lay both Enable and Love, but did not pull the trigger.

Strange one not running her. Her broodmare career is cemented. What is there to lose?

    Quote from Aidan
It's 4.1 on the going stick there at the moment and they're forecast more rain for tomorrow and Saturday, so we didn't have any choice with her really.
A 4.1 going stick rating indicates heavy going, perhaps even bottomless ground. Surely it can't be that bad?

Edit - Aidan must have meant penetrometer reading.

    No..Horse .........(Draw)

    1 PERSIAN KING (7)
    2 ROYAL JULIUS (8)
    3 WAY TO PARIS (6)
    4 JAPAN (11)
    5 SOVEREIGN (10)
    6 STRADIVARIUS (14)
    7 SOTTSASS (4)
    8 ENABLE (5)
    9 DEIRDRE (12)
    10 GOLD TRIP (9)
    11 CHACHNAK (13)
    12 IN SWOOP (1)
    13 MOGUL (3)
    14 SERPENTINE (15)
    15 RAABIHAH (2)

With this smaller field and slow ground I think the draw makes little difference.
On fast ground a low draw is important.
I will post the winner when I have my bet placed.

there really should be a discussion on moving the arc

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,092 ✭✭✭The Tetrarch

Yeah, every race should be around an pancake flat oval track like in japan where the ground is rock hard, or like in the USA where the ground is almost always fast.

yeah heavy ground is not a great watch

Storm Alex is approaching France and if they are forecast the amount of precipitation that they are predicting, I would not be surprised if Paris Longchamp is un-raceable by the weekend.

Will be horrible ground no matter what.

I'm fairly confused at this stage.

It's likely to be a fair bit harder to pick the winner on atrocious ground, but the odds for the likes of Stradivarius are crazy short which means that there's some potentially rich pickings to be had on on some of the less fancied horses.

If staying is the game then the result by Dosage Index would be

    In Swoop DI 0.57
    Enable DI 0.60
    Serpentine DI 0.71
    Japan DI 0.74
    Mogul DI 0.74
    Sovereign DI 0.76
    Stradivarius DI 0.91
    Sottsass DI 1.00
    Gold Trip DI 1.22
    Raabihah DI 1.22
    Royal Julius DI 1.33
    Way To Paris DI 1.75
    Persian King DI 1.86
    Deirdre DI 2.20
    Chachnak DI 3.00

    Poor show by Betfair.
The Arc antepost market is suspended, but they have not put up a raceday market.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭byronbay2

In case anyone here backed Love ante-post with PP, they are giving a "Justice Refund" for all bets, no max. Fair dues to them, soothes the pain a little bit although most of my Love dosh was on BF.

I am backing Japan at 16/1 for the simple reason that this is the first time in 8 runs that Ryan Moore is no longer on it

he'd need the rest take the wrong course. I must be missing something with this horse. Has looked group 3 class anytime I have watched him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,625 ✭✭✭RivetingRoger

Any chance Boyles will do a refund on a Love/Battassh double placed in shop on Tuesday do ye think lads, or is that one for the bin?

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,375 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

    Battaash out now :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Ground must be close to unraceable.

On decent ground, I'd agree. On very soft/heavy as we look like we might get, anything can happen, and Japan should certainly stay as evidenced by last years Arc.
