I'm going back the 23rd to actually get the tattoo done. Not looking forward to the pain though....

A new studio opened in Killarney last weekend. It's called Pachamama Tattoo, it's down Chapel Lane (In the same premises Metal Urges used to be in).

Got a new tat done there Monday night, prices were reasonable, skill level was high and the guys were very accomodating (They agreed to take me at 7.30 even though the studio normally closes at 7pm).

Great to deal with and I will be going back when I decide what to do next =)

Has Metal Urges moved elsewhere? I´ve always liked Maurice as a piercer...

Yup, it's been in Tralee for a couple of years now. It's still going strong, he just moved because he saw more potential for business as far as I know. I can see his point too, the fact that there is an IT in the town adds alot of potential.

Porn star--Ive edited your post. Most of the posters here are really for regulation of the industry and posts like yours only add to the bad image of Tattoo artists and piercers.

    Consider this a warning.

We dont encourage underage tattooing / piercing here.

Just wanted to say that actually there is NO law in ireland relating to body piercing.

    This means:

You can leagaly get any piercings (except for intimate piercings) with absolutely NO age specifications.
Intimate piercings can be performed on anyone over the age of 17(the Irish National age of consent), or
Intimate piercings can be performed on a person of any age provided there is documented and significant evidence that the procedure was performed for procedural reasons only and that no sexual misconduct occured.

Studios have age limits on a moral issue and due to screaming parents who do come in regularly thinking that the studio was wrong in piercing their son/daughter, who may or may not be a minor. These parents are unaware of the lack in laws. Although it does look bad when a screaming parent goes on a rant infront of potential customers and I do think all studios should seek parental consent, screaming parents actually leagaly don't have a leg to stand on and should be screaming at their disobedient children for going behind the parent's backs!

The only laws piercing studios have to abide by are relating to health and safety issues. As long as studios have the likes of a vacuum Autoclave, sterile single use blades and cannulas, sterile forceps and clamps, a sharps bin and running water, then you should be in the clear, as these are the only pieces of equipment that in any way concern you, the customer.

Anyone over the age of 16 can consent to minor surgury such as having a tooth taken out (at a dentist obviously!) , or for example, dermal anchors, a kind of piercing.

Sorry for the long post, just sick of reading about all these "underage" people! They're not actually by law underage!

Yes, I'm a qualified body piercer, no, I don't pierce people without parental consent, I'm a parent, I empathyse!

does anybody know where a 15yr old can get a tatoo? i want a small one between my thumb and my pointing finger. i know you have to be 16 or somthing like that but is there anywhere in dublin where you can get one without your parents being there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

The kind of place that would do that is not the kind of place that you want to get tattooed.
And the age for tattoos is 18, not 16.
Seriously, there's a 99.9% chance that anything that you get tattooed on yourself at that age is something that you will regret later in life!

    You can't even spell tattoo.

Any tattoo artist who would be willing to tattoo the hand of some child should be flogged, frequently.

You are too young to grasp what a stupid move this tattoo would be, but the artist probably wouldn't be - so if they went through with it they would be a terrible human being indeed.

    Run along home, kid.

    Hi,

First of all, I don't think that at 15 wanting a navel piercing is stupid, piercings can be taken out if they're not wanted, unlike tattoo's. Anyway, if I were to judge I'd be a hypocrit. On to business: What I could suggest for you to do is to go to www.goldenpages.ie and put in "Piercing" into business category, and "dublin" in the "where" field. Just ring the places and ask them would they pierce you if they can make a call to your parents in the states for permission. Make sure you tell them you're 15. You'll get a lot of no's I'm sure, but don't give up, you should get one or two places willing to make the quick call.

I personally won't break shop rules, your parent has to be with you to sign forms in my place of work, so sorry about that. Best of luck finding somewhere.

JaneLane00 which studio do you work in? Might as well add yourself to the list of piercers since it's the thread and all :)

So...do we have an answer about where the best place in Galway is for a tattoo? I shall be making an appointment for my first tattoo tomorrow (:D) Metalworks is the place that's been reccomended to me, it's nothing too big or too specialised/complicated, but obviously I still don't want it completely screwed up

I got my latest tattoo in "G's Tattoos" in Galway last month. It was Buddhist script in black on the inside of my upper arm. I got it done by Gorden and am very pleased with it. I have to say I found the staff there very friendly and Gordan was the same. I would defo recommend him and I will be going back again.

Thanks oeb, I've sent them an email and hope for a reply but a landline number would be good.

If it's not possible there is there anywhere else in Killarney or a drive away?

They don't have a landline yet (Or they did not when they got their cards printed anyway), that mobile is used as their main business line though, so feel free to call it. The operate out of a proper studio in town and everything.

There is also Metal Urges in Tralee (About 20 min away) (066) 7144691

There is also another place in Tralee (From the Gunn) but I have heard lot's of bad stories from there so I would stay away.
