Table Top Game for Younger kids

Hi Folks,

Just looking for some advice. I played Hero Quest at the age my kids are starting to arrive at (5 - 8) and it got me interested in miniature painting which is a hobby I've somewhat maintained and 40k which is a hobby I maintain as much as I can (barely).

There is a group of 4 - 6 kids on our road that would be all interested so something at least 4 player would be ideal.

I'm really not familiar with what is popular and what might be a no brainer so asking here whilst I'm researching myself. I liked Hero Quest because it was accessible, had a good pace and was fairly straight forward to understand.

If anyone can recommend something for that age group I'd really appreciate it. I've a slightly selfish angle in that if the miniatures are interesting that would help as I'll end up doing some of the painting.

Well Im not really familiar with Hero Quest, and I dont knwo how kids generally handle board games rules but maybe something from The Dungeons & Dragons board games?

If you dont mind the chibi style, look around for Masmorra https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/181524/masmorra-dungeons-arcadia

or Arcadia Quest https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/155068/arcadia-quest

Plays for 5 and 4 players competitively respectively, relatively easy rules to learn. Masmorra is closer to HQ as each player is journeying through small square rooms independently, fighting monsters and getting treasure in the hope to earn more points than the others. Mainly about placing your dice on spaces to activate abilities or spots on the board, so the symbol matching makes it a little easier to teach.
Arcadia Quest is a bit more involved; each player has a guild of 3 heroes and you fight through a series of scenarios, beating monsters for quests while also fighting each other.
You could also try Zombicide (Black Plague/Green Horde being the most recent versions), a very easy game to grasp so has that intro-to-games friendliness HQ had. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/176189/zombicide-black-plague
Dunno what your kids ability to stomach zombies and such is so might be one to think a bit more about.

You could also try Mice & Mystics, https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/124708/mice-and-mystics heard good things about it for kids, and the theme is very kid friendly (castle soldiers turned into mice so you have to navigate the castle while fighting rats and spiders). Only a handful of miniatures, though.
