There is a make night in the science gallery on Thursday 11th of Feb in the Science Gallery (6-8pm). the science gallery is near Pearse street dart station.

A make night is where people get together and make stuff. Stop go animations, paper balloons, electronics, wool spinning, crochet coral things like that.

There will be Sugru there. Sugru is like putty but it can set hard so you can use it for making toothbrush holders, pen grips, phone guards and that sort of thing.

I am also bringing the parts to make tactile rubiks cubes.

So if you want to do a bit of making come along and give it a go.

Hand Papermaking and Paper Art – Traditional and contemporary practices at the 20th IAPMA Congress, Tasmania, Australia
    By Tunde Toth

This illustrated talk offers an insight into Tunde Toth’s experiences at the 20th IAPMA (International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists) Congress in Tasmania in 2009 where she had been invited to participate and give workshops on the experimental techniques she uses in silk fibre papermaking. Her three piece installation work Land Script – Copper Coast was selected for the New Paper – Old Land International Paper Art Exhibition at the same time. The talk follows her journey through the locations and events of the Congress – professional papermaking studios, galleries, artist’s presentations, specialised paper art workshops and wilderness tours – in a country of extraordinary landscapes and wildlife. The IAPMA Congress provided a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with over 130 international delegates and establish connections between networks and artists’ groups.

Tunde Toth is a Hungarian born artist specializing in experimental paper and fibre art, practicing in Ireland since 1998. As a paper artist and papermaker Tunde has been working with natural plant fibres, various handmade papers, raw silk fibres, textiles, found objects, old fabrics and lace for the past 13 years. She uses techniques and processes which are rooted in papermaking traditions but she continually develops and changes these processes through an experimental approach to the medium, exploring and pushing the boundaries of hand papermaking. Her artwork has been selected for a number of group and solo exhibitions at art centres and galleries in Ireland and internationally – most recently shown at Land – Scripts, her solo exhibition and residency at Kilkenny County Arts Office. In 2009 she was awarded the Artlinks Bursary Award.

‘Dublin Sketchers: Drawing a Crowd’ Exhibition at the Sol Art Gallery

On the 11th of June the Sol Art Gallery on Dawson Street will premiere a special exhibition entitled ‘Dublin Sketchers: Drawing a Crowd’. Done in conjunction with the city-wide celebrations for Bloomsday, the exhibition brings together the work of 23 Dublin based artists in a single collection as the Dublin Sketchers group show never before seen works created in a variety of mediums.

Running daily from 11-17 June, the exhibition introduces the work of a wide variety of artists who operate around the Dublin area. The show’s theme is inspired by the weekly outings of Dublin Sketchers.

Founded in early 2008, Dublin Sketchers has grown to become a significant group of passionate artists based in the capital. Each week, the members visit different locations in the Dublin area including galleries, museums, parks and outdoor spaces. Participating artists provide their own sketchpads, drawing equipment and imaginations but the rest is free.

This packed exhibition features some unique work built up over the past two years which is unlikely to be shown under the same roof again. Indeed, the sheer diversity of the work and artists involved will guarantee that there is something which appeals to everyone.

The exhibition will be opened in the Athena Room of the Gallery and would be a shame to miss.

Admission is free and it will run until Friday, 17th June.

    See you there!
