Looking for a shallow plastic back box

    I need to replace a back box with stripped threads, it's 15 or 16mm deep. I could fit a 25mm box in, but they seem to be exceedingly hard to find.

    35mm is too deep for the wall thickness.

    I'd be very hesitant to fit a metal box as it's an old house without grounding for switches.

    But it's hard to say how that's mounted, doesn't seem to have screws at the back. Anywhere else to try? Woodies, Screwfix, B&Q, Homebase only seem to have 35mm or 47mm boxes.

    Why don’t you drill a 5.5mm hole with masonry bit at the damaged thread and pop in a rawl plug. You will have to use a longer 3.5 socket screw but readily available.

    You could just use a 25mmb plastic surface box, they are pretty common, Screwfix have them for 50c or so.

    The one you linked is for use with trunking, they just snap in.

    That might be an option now that I'm looking at it...I'll try it anyway and see how it goes.

    Yeah if I can't find a 25mm or smaller box (the current one as I say is 15mm but they don't seem to exist any more) that's what I'm going to have to do.

    Aye I was worried about something like that. Might be able to retrofit it with a few holes, but it's not ideal.

    The one suggested is a surface box. You would need to do alterations to get to fit. Is it a block wall?

    Internal brick, I'd need to put a bit of timber and plaster in the cavity for the switch box, but it's not too big a job.

    I think this is going to work, it's not perfect due to the top of the rawl plug protruding a little, but I can hide that behind the switch plate. Thanks for the excellent suggestion.
