Hi all, I know you get these questions every now and then, but I would appreciate a bit of help as to where we could live. We are older but still working, still in touch and would like to be around people that are lively, enquiring and cosmopolitan. We would like to live somewhere that with a bit of effort on our part we could have a chance of making friends and acquaintances. We don't have kids, so family things are probably out. Any help appreciated.

If you are interested in a cosmopolitan setting then Belfast is really the best place.
Have you visited NI? If not then I suggest taking a week holiday there and checking out the various counties/towns and seeing for yourself how you like the atmosphere in each.

Go in to local estate agents and have a chat about house prices and local amenities.

I'm living in Belfast the last 2 and a half years, it is a different world compared to, for me, Dublin. I really enjoy it up here though, there are constant festivals, parades, shows etc. on up here.
There are times I do miss home and the occasional uneducated person you can run into can be annoying. thankfully this type of low life is not that common and exists on both sides of the fence.
The buzz on a night out is completely different up here, but in a good way. You wouldn't be long making friends if you went out and socialised, someone will chat to you at some stage.

Must say I agree here. Come up and have a look around at some of the places you are interested in. Belfast is a nice compact city which might suit
