This was froomes breakthrough GT https://vimeo.com/69171459

JA has always performed well. Just maybe not in a three week tour but its nothing like as big as transformation as froome

I'll never forget that. Casually waving a spectator to get the f*ck out of the way and then sprints up the hill for over 30 seconds out of the saddle. Utter madness.

Also bittersweet in hindsight. Cobo loses his title 8 years later, yet when the same happened to Froome he had to money behind him to make it go away. Sad.

If Eddie Dunbar progresses well with Ineos are we just going to pretty much doubt all of that?.
JA has been touted as a winner since a youngster and I find his progress right in line with what I expected from Kwiatkwoski before he went to Sky and became a robot.

Kruijswijk really rinds me of Cadel Evans in style and tactics. Can’t see him winning it this year as he doesn’t really attack enough.

Today and more so the stages to come are about stamina ... Kruijswijk has that in spades

Today was not about speed but a high temp and attrition ..it will be more so next week

JA is a great rider ...one of the best ...but no one does everything and beats everyone at everything including on the Tourmalet just like that ..of course he is on magnificent form but this is surreal

One comms today said the climb is like the Angriliu ...remember JA grinding slowly up that not so log ago

Nowhere near the same in levels of steepness

It's nothing like the Angliru. Not even remotely close

Looking forward to flicking through the French papers in the morning. They love their headlines with a French man elect

The commentator meant it’s like the Angliru in terms of spectating NOT the actual climb.

Bet he doesn't do cobbles...... yet anyways.

But seriously, he hasn't won anything yet. He might hold on till Paris but there's a chance he'll do an S. Yates in the Giro. They rode a hard tempo to the top but let's see how he gets on if a contender attacks from far out

Cant see anyone doing that ...Thomas is not up to it, and neither is Fuglsang
Kreus doesn't do that and Bernal wont be allowed. Not sure about Buchmann but he is probably hoping to hold on to his first time top placing so wont risk it
Not sure if the rest will recover or get enough time to make it back to contention

They will all ride like today as mostly on the limit and hope he cracks by next Saturday

JA has won and been high up in week long stage races (6th in Dauphine included), and won world tour ITT's. He's also a specialist in what are supposedly the climbers classics like liege.

Btw Fignon won San Remove, Giro and then obviously close second in the Tour in 89.

Here is a statistic fro you Enric Mas fans

He rode Tourmalet today in one second faster than Nicolas Roche did it in 2010

(except it was probably harder for Nico as he was alone for longer)

Also in 2010 Contador & Schleck were faster than Pinot by almost half a minute and today had a strong tail wind

Thing is in 2010 the field were very spread out
In 2019 far more riders are near each other on time...more riders at a similar level and competition is far tougher all the way down the top 20 but maybe the top are not the same as the top back then

Lads I've had a few minutes to settle down...what on earth was that from Alaphilippe... Seriously. This might rival Froome Vuelta 2011 if he keeps this up.

They reckon the yellow jersey makes you do strange things and ride phenomenal

I'll have no hair left if Kirby keeps spouting that nonsense.

    Dan's performance today...
I was very surprised that he got dropped so early. I was expecting him to last around the same time as someone like Richie Porte. I wonder is he still team leader.

I know they are not the same TYPE of climb . The Tourmalet is longer and higher , the Angriliu is steeper and shorter 12.5 KM

My point is Alaphillipe has no record till today in beating GC top climbers on high climbs. If he were an Ineos rider most here would have thrown him under a bus by now

And there are still questions to answer about Quick Step's doctor so no need for inputs about jiffy bags

I still would not have JA down as fave. He stuck with the mountain goats one day - see how he fares for the rest of the week.
Also, he won the KOM jersey last year, so not like its completely out of the blue

There are some not so subtle accusations of doping emerging. Some moreso than others.

Going to have to start a zero tolerance approach if people don't stop and start handing out cards.

The cynic in me says that Thomas was told to sit up and conserve energy yesterday as they reckon JA will start to go backwards at some stage and Thomas will do a Froomey ala Giro last year.... Just ride off the front and put 5+ mins into the top 4or 5.
