Couple from Kinsale of one of my favourite birds. Not as sharp as they could be as I need to deal with a front focus issue on this lens.

Looks like the Burrowing Owl. A small owl from America that takes it name from what it does best....
Nope, not a burrowing owl. This little guy is a Western Screech owl, he's called Max and hatched on the 27th May 2009, at the Burren Birds of Prey centre.
He now has is adult feathers, and is no longer fluffy :D but he's a really sweet little guy.

Got a fair what of shots from the Burren Birds of prey centre myself, spending days down there volunteering and working with the birds... I love that place.

Wow, V. nice pics, apparently they LOVE peanut butter, saw it on tv, they were Pine Martin watching in Scotland and the way to get them really close for photographing was spread peanut butter on a post just outside the hide.
    :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,657 ✭✭✭magnumlady

I'll have to try the peanut butter.
I tried jam before on a piece of bread...but no luck. Although something had come and eaten the jam during the night but left the bread.:D

and the first redpoll I've seen in these parts. I obviously haven't been looking in the right places.

Loved these pictures - well done.

We went to West of Scotland for Christmas a few years ago and bought a huge fat-ball, big as a grapefruit, for the birds, for £5.00. That night, a pine marten pinched it.

We stayed up the following night, and put out some bread with Marks and Spencers Brandy Cream Christmas Pudding Sauce spread on it, and after an hour spent crouching behind the curtains, the Pine Marten sneaked up and grabbed it. We were told their favourite snack is the custard cream biscuit - you night try them. None of your Tesco Value packs, now - Jacobs only !
