Just a note to say any I'll be pruning this thread every so often as the gigs pass.

NB: if you want to discuss a particular gig then start a new thread, don't post here.

These guys are good, and I only chanced on them

Highly reccommend the Sunday afternoon session 2 to 4pm by the Dublin City Big Band in Kielys in Mount Merrion www.kielys.com on a Sunday afternoon. More Jazzy than their title suggests. A great line up, some of the best talent around and some great interpretations and a cool way to spend a sunday afternoon, and , no, I am not connected with the Band. The gig is not being actively promoted other than on Kiely's website and these guys deserve to be heard by a bigger crowd. And I am not connected with Kielys either! Just an ordinary joe. So come on people why not make it a great atmosphere and turn up next Sunday at Kielys (Mount Merrion not Donnybrook)

Los Alamos at Crawdaddy

Los Alamos Play Their Headlining Debut With Support from Fade Street Bums.

Crawdaddy
September 18th
Doors 8pm
€7 (with Free Entry to Club Afterwards)

Harry Rambles - Vox/Guit
Dave Springsteen Springer - Bass
Jobo - Trumpet
Stephen Steebag Maguire - Sax
Michael Boy Wonder Flemming - Skins

Los
Alamos dress as sharp as they play, with mostly original material and a
couple of old and new soul classics. They aim to evoke the energy and
emotion of performers like Sam & Dave, Otis Redding and Buddy Guy.

The band was formed earlier this year and consists of well versed, tight musicians.

The
Brass section which features Stephen Maguire (Sax) and Joe McNamara
(Trumpet) have between them toured America and played in venues like
the Royal Albert Hall and NCH Dublin.

Harry Rambles (Guitar and
Vox) is a former folk musician who has had a residency in Whelans for a
year and gigged in most of Dublin's Venues. Dave Springer (Bass) is a
veteren of many bands including Swifthound and Mean Feat. Michael
Flemming (Drums) the young unknown is an extremely accomplished and
confident drummer and the back bone/saviour of the band.

Los
Alamos put on a show not just a collection of songs and hope to see as
much people as possible on the Eighteenth of September in Crawdaddy for
their first headlining show and leave you all with smiles on your
faces.

Improvised Music Company presents
Francesco Turrisi Trio

John Field Room, National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2
Tickets: €15

“Delightful, unusual, decidedly un-Irish jazz.”The Sunday Tribune

Turin born Francesco Turrisi was formerly harpsichordist with acclaimed baroque ensemble l’Arpeggiata, experience he has put to productive use since becoming firmly established in Ireland.

These days he’s a pivotal member of Balkan group Yurodny and also leads Tarab, a small group experimenting with different elements of Irish traditional, Mediterranean and medieval music. Adding to these he leads Gato Azul, a group who draw inspiration from the endless well of Brazilian music.

In piano trio with bassist Dan Bodwell and drummer Sean Carpio, these elements are further expanded on and their debut CD Si Dolce È Il Tormento was released this year to widespread acclaim. Described by The Irish Times as ‘exquisite', the music is imbued with the reflective aesthetic of the great German label ECM whilst drawing inspiration from early music and Italian folk melodies.

Its further evidence of the abundant creativity at work from this open minded and lyrical pianist.

Francesco Turrisi Trio will play the John Field Room of the National Concert Hall on Wednesday 16th September at 8pm. Tickets are available from NCH box office on 01 417 0000 or from the website www.nch.ie

Further information on Francesco Turrisi is on www.francescoturrisi.com.
