    Hi folks,

My poor auld Dad recently passed away and my mother has decided to come live with us in Dublin ( Dundrum to be exact )

Anyway, she has found that after 24hr care giving she now has a lot of time on her hands.

Does anyone here know of clubs or societies she may be able to get involved in in D14/D16 area ?

She is not big on travelling at all so anywhere outside of D14/D16 isnt really an option.

She does like cooking, and poker ( although absolutely not for money !)

    Thanks in advance !

Sorry to hear you lost your dad. Regarding your mum's needs, it really depends on her interests and if she can drive locally. Does she have a friend she could travel a bit further with? These may be of interest although you may find more information in your local library.

Also, check local churches as different groups may be using their facilities i.e. bridge clubs, craft groups etc.

Hi, I suggest she takes up playing Bridge, especially if she's fond on playing cards. Essential to take a course in it though. They are run all over the country. Up the road from you in Templeogue is the CBAI. They will answer any questions you have on the matter. If she "takes to it" then you'll never look back. It is a truly great pastime, and is on whole year round, except Christmas Day, and even then I suspect there are a few sneaky games going on!! Best of luck.

I second that about bridge and need to go classes where hopefully you will find a partner with whom to go forth and join a club. Impossible to progress without a partner.

It is a great online game yes even on Christmas Day. I play bridgebaseonline.com

It's also normal enough to meet a new partner when going to the lessons. Everyone there is in the same boat.

My own mother got quite involved in a local 'Ladies Club' which she seems to enjoy a lot. They get speakers in about all sorts and have quizzes, music nights etc. Every so often they go away on one of those mid-week breaks. They very much seem to look out for each other which is great.

There are a few listed in the area you are looking for here: http://olderdlr.ie/directory/

Some towns have a Lunch Club associated initially with Meals on Wheels. A good meal and a talk or music etc in the afternoon. Informal friendly places.
