Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Kids 1st Time Camping - August Bank Holiday

    Hi folks - we're hoping to bring the kids (3 + 7) camping for the 1st time this August bank holiday weekend. We were probably a bit naive in leaving it this late before planning, but having some trouble finding somewhere suitable and hoping for some suggestions. We're based West of Galway, so looking at Galway/Clare/Mayo or other close counties as best options as they're relatively close should something go wrong.

    We'd like somewhere on the water ideally (sea or lake) with enough to keep the kids busy for 3 nights. We'll be in a 6 man tent. Our eldest has been camping a few times before (once with me in a camper and another time with scouts) but it'll be the youngers 1st time.

    Have tried Lough Key Forest Park, Lakeside in Clare, Actons in Clifden and Westport House and all are fully booked. At a bit of a loss where to try otherwise with it being so close to the bank holiday.

    Any suggestions?

    There is an app in the play store called Camping Ireland. It lists a lot of the campsites by county.

    Multifarnham in westmeath. Old-school and a bit run down but a nice atmosphere. The campsite is beside a lake and sure isn't it the lake county. It has a kids play room and a bit of a playground plus some forest trails. The village up the road has a good playground and a nice pub / restaurant.

    Had a grand time there last year with first time camping young kids and it's close to Kinnegad on the M6.
