Small Wedding Reception Music?

We're starting to plan a small family wedding and we're wondering what to do about music for the reception. A full five piece band seems a little bit much but we'd like to have some kind of music playing to keep people entertained for the evening! The reception would be in a marquee at our house.
Has anyone held something similar? What did you do as regards music?
We're currently considering having a look for a smaller 2/3 piece band or musicians... or possibly having the dj come earlier in the day and playing right through but we're just throwing together ideas atm and realistically I think we'd miss the live music element on the day. A spotify playlist has also been suggested!
Any alternative suggestions or stories of what you did with organising a similar wedding?
Or any recommendations for small wedding bands/musicians/djs in the Galway area?

    Thanks!

We are just doing a Spotify playlist. Doing similar to yourself, small garden reception if I'm honest even in a decent sized garden music will likely drown out the conversation so we just want some light background music.

Any relatives good with a guitar? Sounds like the setup would be ideal for a family sing song as the evening goes on.

We had a small wedding pre Covid. Had a single musician with guitar play for the ceremony and drinks after - which with our families turned into everyone singing.

Then we had a 2 piece band play after dinner - we chatted beforehand and they said if people weren’t into dancing they’d happily play quieter while people chatted. But we ended up dancing away - our venue said it felt like a wedding for 50 but there were only 14 guests, but that’s the style of our families!

Definitely recommend it if you can afford it. We found we weren’t in the typical “wedding band” range, more like the kind of group who’d play a mix of trad and covers in a good pub, so budget wise it was a lot easier to manage.
