BTW how good is the Dynamite card for next week so far.
Some potential awesome matches. The Miro v Darby has me buzzing as I don't know what's going to happen.

Also that fall from Darby down the steps, the man is glutton for punishment

Next weeks show looks solid. Im really hyped to see what happens with SCU.

I agree, Kenny was awesome. Yes really excelled as a cocky heel.

Said in the news thread I’d fallen off wrestling a good bit but after some encouragement, I opted to give Dynamite a try.

I massively enjoyed it. And will likely be back next week too (I loved they can give a full run down of next weeks show! How unique.).

I think the show is a step down in production value from Raw or Smackdown, but I actually like that. WWE is sanitised to the point of being painful nowadays. AEW is rough around the edges, but it actually makes it more appealing. Sure, there’s weird camera shots every now and again where you wonder where the director went, but overall, the production works better. And no thousand camera shots for every punch.

I think every match, every angle, was entertaining. A really tight two hours. Darby, Kingston, they’ve got some great home grown guys.

I enjoyed the main event, up until Jericho entered. I love Jericho, and think he belongs on the Mt Rushmore. But once he entered the match, the entire thing grounded to a halt IMO. He was showing his age, puffing and panting after a minute or two, and the entire momentum of the match fell off a cliff. It felt they shifted into killing time. When they got up top, it seemed to take ages to get to the finish, which was then a bit flat, and had the whole safe landing issue, which I thought looked awfully amateurish.

There was ways to do it safely, and ways to mask it. Not showing the actual fall would have been so much more effective. Keep the camera on MJF and don’t show Jericho until the mats are removed, or they’ve done something to make it look harder hitting.

It’s a shame the ending fell so flat cause I did love the show overall. I really, really like their blend of ex-WWE guys and their own talent; it feels like they pair them up to benefit each other. Mod and Kingston, Darby and Sting, Jericho and the IC. It’s handled very well. I like the show seemed aimed at adults, and didn’t treat you like a child. I like Excalibur on commentary, but worry a little about JR.

I love the concept that PAC and OC are fighting next week because they are ranked #1 and #2. Simple and yet how it absolutely should be.

A heroin addict with particularly bad aim it must be said.

Recently we saw reports of Tessa going to AEW

Seemingly there was no merit behind these rumors

A firm "No" from AEW apparently

Some camera work on the trash can shot

    Great segment too

Was thinking at the time some of the usual heads who couldn't wait to bash AEW might have jumped the gun slightly on that one, getting worked up over something that hadn't even happened yet!

Never, people stop me for pics all the time so I never do it to others. I have social skills also thankfully.

Private Party were the ones who came up to me yest asking about my style haha.

    Mox is also here!

Just finished watching Blood and Guts; enjoyed the event, but the ending again was a bit blah... And as a part-time viewer who dips in and out for these big shows, 2 in recent months have been badly executed. I get what they were trying, but it just didnt work.

Loved the Spanish Fly from Sammy and Spears - brilliant spot.

Was happy to see Miro have a proper Monster heel - might check in next week and see how he gets on against Darby, but I can only presume it will end in some sort of shenanigans finish, considering Darby got thrown down the stairs by other people!

Still dont get the OC character, and dont fully understand how he is in the Main Event picture; surely PAC wins next week? Does anyone really want to see OC v Kenny - honest question?

In 2 minds about the effectiveness of that "exposing the wooden floor" spot in the main event. On the one hand its effective cos it looks brutal when a move is performed on unprotected ground but on the other its a reminder that the ring has at least 2 inches of spongey foam under the canvas. Which I dont think I ever knew.. or thought about until the Taker / Brock match a few years back

Yeah I must say I do enjoy a lot of the quirks of AEW not being as finely tuned production wise.

I'm definitely sticking with it for now, next week's card actually interests me more as a more casual viewer because I wasn't invested in the Pinnacle/Inner Circle feud, so seeing what comes next is what interests me.

Quite looking forward to see if Miro might actually murder Darby Allin for example.

100% yes. They would put on a very fun match and they could just as easily play it for laughs or take it very seriously and the way OC won his last squash match on Dark - it was a lot less of his slacker schtick and a lot more "I can wrestle and bring the fight to my opponent" which is definitely a good plan if he's going against the Bastard next week.

Either scenario - Kenny/Pac or Kenny/OC will deliver and I'm excited to see either.

I ***hate*** the OC schtick personally but I'd well believe he will challenge for the title on the PPV. He is a legitimate star to most of the AEW audience.

I love the OC gimmick and the guy can back it up with talent.

PAC & OC will be a cracker of a match and whichever one of them gets the match against Omega that will also be a cracker.

After watching the second episode of Dark Side of the Ring, it made me wonder if they'll try and replicate anything with Pillman Jr. Already doing the Varsity Blondes.
I know they're already trying a Loose Cannon thing with Moxley.

I love OC. He's an amazing character, backed up by an amazing preformer.

Do I think he should win the title? No. But I see no harm in him getting into matches for it, the same way someone like Santino got chances (some of my most vivid memories of Santino are him coming close, the crowd going nuts, but ultimately failing). OC is a super likeable babyface with the crowd solidly behind him, and capable of having a great match.

For someone like Omega, a top heel, having a match and beating a fan favorite in OC (especially when OC has legit earned the match) helps put Omega's character over.

I just mean he's the closest to the likes of Pillman they have with the way he acts. Though I'm just basing that on what's been on Dark Side of the Ring since I missed that whole era of wrestling.

My girlfriend who doesn't find much entertainment value in pro wrestling saw that spot where Santana and Ortiz pulled OC out from under the ring on the ladder with me here one evening and laughed her ass off. We went down a rabbit hole of some of his matches cause she thought he was hilarious and extremely talented. That ability to bring brand new fans with a silly and fun gimmick can't be overstated and for people who see pro wrestling as inherently "stupid" cause it's "fake," having a character like OC who subverts that and leans into the scripted nature of the thing whilst doing simple physical comedy on top of the amazing flippy-doos which are impressive to any human opens more doors.

All that said, I can 100% understand why people don't like the gimmick, especially if you're a fan of a more "serious" style of match.

A lot of OC clips have gone viral with non wrestling fans. I do understand why people wouldn't like him though.
I do think that a story with him getting more serious for a title could work though at the same time.

his 1st match with Pac , think it may have been on one of the 1st PPV's was absolutely fantastic , I love how Omega's promo bascially sold either result of there match and I do think he would get a massive rub from even losing to Kenny Omega and it'd be just like Omega's current character to underestimate him , Could be a show stealing match

Mox isn't really an approximation of Pillman at that period. I don't think you could really have one because the whole idea was he gave you the impression he wasn't doing as told. You have to remember, pre Montreal we all knew it was a work but it wasn't ever expressly stated.

It's fitting the thread is focusing on Orange Cassidy at the moment because his whole schtick just could not have existed in that era and is very emblematic of the difference between now & then. Even the most absurd things in the business didn't overtly play off the whole thing being a work then the way they do now.

You have hit the nail on the head in terms of the positive and negative.

For people who are only comfortable with liking pro wrestling ironically he's perfect.

For people who don't want to be told smack bang in the middle of a television show that this whole thing is all pretend fighting nonsense, it's a terrible character.

Finally home after a wild week that took me to 3 corners of the US, I met tonnes of wrestlers, pornstars and even some UFC fighters this morning in LA. One for the books!

    So AEW Blood and Guts!

There was good socially distanced queue out in the parking lot and going in our temperature was checked, pic taken and contact details obtained in the event of a breakout. About as responsible as they could be really.

Daily's is much smaller in person than it appears on TV, the tunnels in particular are much closer together looking in person. Cody could be seen running around checking on various aspects of the production and checking in with key production folks. There isn't a bad seat in the house really. My friends and I initially were in the first raised section which gave a great view but we blagged our way down to front row which was perfect for the main event. The cage itself was HUGE and very impressive looking.

The show did indeed start with Tony Khan coming out promising us an amazing night. He stated it would be a little different however and that all the other matches were taped and he would need our live reaction to help make it special. The crowd was kinda meh and he promised that the main event would be something special and he then stated that everyone that wanted a refund was welcome to go get one. He also stated we would all get a free commemorative poster of the event also (the attendant handed us about 20 and they go for 100 each now so happy days!).

Being front row was amazing if only for the proximity to the "wrestler crowd". Let me get the big thing out of the way first!

HOOK SIGHTING - Hook was in the left section of the crowd as you watch on TV - I shouted over asking was he good, and he confirmed he was. :D

Fuego was outstanding in the crowd getting people pumped up. Chatted to him and he's seriously one of the soundest dudes, can't help but root for him. Big Swole also - OMG she's a crazy ball of energy. At one point she ran all the way across to the wrestler crowd on the other side and just launched Jade Cargill of the chair, it was hilarious.

Got to chat with Leyla Hirsch, Kilynn King and Shawn Deane. Deane remembered us from the airport and came over to us thanking us for traveling to the show. Everyone of them was super sound, Leyla was fixated on my hair style so chatted about that. Marty the Moth was on the other side of the crowd but knew one of my friends from his LU days and came over for a bit during a break.

The Darby stuff - since it happened right after the taped stuff for the crowd, initially the crowd didn't realize to look up and see it actually going down. Wasn't spotlit very well.

Kenny's promo was glorious but it was interesting seeing the stage/production manager lady behind the camera FREAKING that he was going over time. He ignored the warnings for a bit to the point I thought she was gonna get in the shot. A true heel.

Miro - Jesus H Christ - what an absolute unit of a man. TV does his size no justice really. Promo and the closing line in particular was amazing and the crowd loved it.

Blood and guts - the entrances were my favourite part overall. The intensity was off the charts and the crowd was rabid. Reminded me of old ECW crowds. During the break, we were chanting **** at the Pinnacle and MJF got in my face, then Dax and then Cash - they ****ing loved it as we were letting them have it proper and you could tell they appreciated it. I'm gutted the Fite stream didn't pick it up and I only have ****ty insta videos of it.

The match was very good overall with some great spots. The chairs IMO were definitely heavily gimmicked based off the sound of them. I've been to deathmatches in CZW, GCW and BJW and Freedoms in Japan where I've seen and heard a lot of chair shots to the head but these were definitely the weakest - seemed like the chairs were close to a Roses tin lid based on the sound anyway.

The ending was a bit of a mess too for a few reasons. The crowd couldn't make out what actually happened for the finish so were booing that. Then the Jericho spot happened and yes it looked crap in person also - though most people seemed to respect it was Jericho taking the bump. We all expect Sammy to be the one doing something like that. It was very violent overall - Sammy looked really messed up and prob the worst out of them all. Another interesting thing is that it was Jericho calling all the spots in the ring once he got in - Aubrey spoke exclusively to him giving him instructions - he struggled to hear her a few times and she had to repeat a few times.

Another interesting note - there was pretty much zero security at the front row. We had it to ourselves for most of it and could have hopped in with ease anytime we wanted pretty much so that was odd. As the match is winding down I see this 10/10 blonde one next to us, my friend Liz hits it off with her and they start chatting. She's there "as a guest of Chris Jericho" and arrived late to the show so couldn't get backstage as it had started. So we start sussing what's the craic with an after party and she said she would give us her number and she couldn't promise anything for that night but for Double or Nothing she'll be over again and we can sort out something then. So we all exchange details and it turns out she is in fact a decently known porn star and was obviously his bit on the side for the night. She was incredibly sound so I won't throw her name around but if you really really want to know DM me.

Anyway, the plan is to meet her at DoN and get to the after party so let's see how that goes. Overall it was a great night - considering the money I spent - I definitely wish I got the other matches live but it is what it is. Jacksonville is a cool place, people very sound they definitely don't care about COVID there.

I also met a few wrestlers and saw some others also on the travels. Here's the breakdown:

    - Lee Johnson/Shawn Deane - super sound. Quick chat as we waited for baggage. They were going over spots for a dark match I assume, Lee was describing some mad top rope stuff to Shawn and I heard them say "Ricky won't take that". Not sure if they meant Starks or not but who knows.

-Scorpio Sky - was sat behind me on the flight over, I was in 1st class and he was in the next section behind me. Lee/Deane were in economy. Sky was hood up, headphones in so didn't chat with him.

    - I'm waiting for my friends as we exit the plane, I hear a guy go "wow you got some sick hair man" - I turn and it's Isaiah Cassidy. Cool guy.

-Cody - as we're walking around the airport on the way back - we go past Chilis and Cody walks out, my friend Liz goes chatting to him and I joked I thought he was a bus guy now and he said it's still ruined after the Factory. Very nice, thanked us for coming out and we asked him a little about DoN tickets - should be going out this Thursday.

-Mox - we were drinking in Chilis and saw Mox solo at the bar drinking. We send a drink his way and he comes over to thank us, chatted about his upcoming Nick Gage match and his love of the Misfits - cool guy, kinda shy/awkward but he didn't have to come over so props to him.

-Santana - had a quick chat with him at the bar, super approachable and was chatting to some fans already. He was a little banged up from the match alright.

Apologies for the wall of text, but it was a cool experience and I would highly recommend. I'll be going to DoN also so that should be fun.

But more importantly, did you tell Hook that LOB was asking for him?

Seriously though, sounds like you had a great time. Glad you enjoyed it
