Renewed my insurance about two weeks ago. Quite from AA was 660, I shopped around and Aviva was around 510 euro. AA we're ringing me to renew and I just told them AVIVA was 472 and they matched it. It a small jeep I have.

Same happened my wife. Got her renewal for 550 from Aviva. Went onto their site as a new customer and got it for 420.

opening my daily pile of bills I came across ‘my’ house insurance paperwork for AXA.It was e420 CHEAPER than my Zurich house insurance quote. Turns out my down the road neighbour who has the same houses paperwork had been delivered to my house by accident. Huge difference.I’ll be getting rid of Zurich snd all their get out of paying clauses and super-expensive home insurance when renewal comes around.

Insurance is something you have to shop around for every year. It immaterial whether it is car, farm, house, health insurance. In our house between us all one year w had a different between quotes and what we actually paid of over 2700 euro, there was four cars, a farm and house and health insurance.

A lot of insurance companies use dual pricing where they give one price to new customers and a different usually higher price to renewal customers because they hope existing customers are too lazy to shop around or are content with haggling a few quid off the inflated renewal price over the phone. People should always shop around but it's crazy the amount of people who don't.

I always switch home and car insurers annually, but our vhi health insurance renewal has always come back on par with all the others, so we just stick with them.

Is there any benefit in switching health insurers every year?

Best way with HI us to go to a broker that specialises in it. They know all the private plans. They can put you on specialist corporate plan's that have the same features as there common plans or they can guide you towards plans with no extra's that cost for ay less

FBD Promo code discount for me was 11.1% (not 20%)

I was the same and then spotted in the quote they e-mailed to me the small print

*20% equals 10% online discount plus 11.1% promotional discount using promo code 'Team20' on new CarProtect online quotes only between May 25th-29th. Discounts applied consecutively. Quote valid for 30 days.

FDB still coming out a lot cheaper for me than Aviva and 25plus, 450 v's 700 mark

I could be wrong but I've heard from a broker this morning that axa may be offering money back on each policy over the coming year due to covid19. When i quizzed him if it was percentage based he told me no, he thinks it's €30 flat.

Of the 5 I usually ring Hastings-Brokers/AXA in Tuam were the best for me this year, €360 vrs Britton €800 wtf!, some difference when you call around.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,510 ✭✭✭Wheety

Axa was nearly €900 for me.

AIG were €390 but got it a bit cheaper with itsforwomen through onebigswitch.ie. €370. Cheapest quote I could get.

Renewal quote was €424. I never bother trying to get them to match.

Allianz were €353 initially but needed to add a load of extras to get the same cover as itsforwomen (including breakdown assist), it came to €391.

FBD the big chancers put my renewal up to €790 odd, from 650 last year. Granted I changed the car but other than it being a bit newer its the same power / engine size, shopped around and plenty of quotes coming in around the €450 mark - an post, aviva, aig. Zurich did a good price on the house insurance through the discount code on onebigswitch, but were miles out on the car at around €570. Going to call up a few of them tomorrow, and see can I haggle a bit more seeing as there is only two weeks between my renewals.

Unless FBD are 30 euro cheaper than the cheapest I would not give it to them

Never take a renewal price. Always get a new quote

I stayed with Aviva for a couple of years as the renewal actually went down and it was a good price. Shot up this year so switched. As I said I couldn't be arsed asking them to match as they should have given me a competitive quote in the first place. It's no hassle to keep switching.

I took renewal from Axa this year, they were cheapest out of 15+ quotes I got... Went up from last year as I added my missus who's on provisional ..

I was quoted €590 to renew with 123.ie.
Shopped around and then got a call back a few days later from 123.ie offering me the exact same insurance for €330. Identical.

I think 123 are brokers. So they may have priced around after quote. Sloppy of them if they did not send the two out together

They emailed me my renewal quote.
Then I went shopping around for a few days.
Suddenly 123 called me with the qoute for identical insurance but €260 cheaper. Then about a month later they sent me an email to let me know i hadnt renewed my original one.

I do this merry dance every year. As someone said to me 3 or 4 years ago. NEVER EVER RENEW.
Always shop around. Even with the same company, get a new policy.

If you have a partner, family member or housemate that is mature (over 25 & full licence), adding them as a named driver can have significant pleasent effects (for you) with your quote.

Getting cheapest quote with FBD and their Team20 code for €910. I paid AXA €920 last year.
Liberty, AXA, Aviva, 123, 25plus and AIB are all offering in excess of 1000 euros.
I have full licence for over 5 years and 6 years NCB.

Any advice to get a cheaper quote?

Mine went from 510 to 560 but if I enter the same details into their quote calculator I get 455, chancers!

If you know any women 40 plus . Ask them if you can put them down as a named driver. I found putting down my neighbor who is 49 on my insurance as a named driver. Lowered my policy by almost 300 euro 2 years ago. I since checked at renewal about removing her but agent advise against it as it will increase the premium. Might be worth a try for you.

I know few men over 45, would that work?

Do they have to be living in same city? My dad is living 220 km away in another city.

I do not remember being asked for an address for the named driver, all they are usually interested in is the details of the named drivers licence and driving experience.

I wonder if in case of a claim they may refuse to settle and say named driver is not even living in the city.
