Sorely tempted to get a second one but just a heads up for anyone in the market for their 1st SSD.

The 120 GB Samsung I mentioned in the OP, is now down to a very respectable £65.40

Doesn't deliver to Ireland. Would have to use Parcel Motel.

Am i missing something here? Once added to my basket, I get the normal free super saver delivery option to Ireland. It's fullfilled by amazon.

So the crucial m500 is at £95.99 again. I know it's a little slower, but the MLC nand used will supposedly last longer than the TLC nand used in the samsung evo.

Should I just go for it? Someone talk me out of it!

Well I can't talk you out of it, just bought one myself :)

Screw it, bought it! :D The difference in performance between it and the evo, doesn't justify the £20 difference in price.

The same item is sold by 2 different sellers on Amazon, Xtreme Micro won't ship it to Ireland but Dealspro3 (from the link) do (free Super Saver).

  • Registered Users Posts: 522 ✭✭✭maik3n

This ssd mentioned in my op is now down to a rather tasty £55.49

Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E391KA8/

Sterling is now back to 80p for €1 too.
So throw in €3.50 for parcel motel and it is quite a nice deal.

 what do you mean "back" to 80p. It was at 85p in Dec. The pound has strengthened.

Good deal anyway. Picked up the 250GB version @ 91 GBP.

@maik3n The GBP was never at 77 or 78p in the last year. In fact it was the opposite. It touched 87p

hehe, it WAS at 85p. Over the past year it had slowly been creeping DOWN, 77/78p and the trend wasn't looking too good for the future.

So it's a nice surprise to see it back up at 80p.

I'll pick up a Samsung 256GB evo one of these days....I don't need it...but oh do I want it!

    Hey guys,

Just wondering, is there any shops/places in Dublin that you could recommend I could bring my 2011 MBP 17" who would then install a Solid State Drive in it for me?

    Thanks.

Just get the one directly from amazon. It's only £2 more but saves you the trouble of going through Parcel Motel

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E391KA8/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Same with the 250GB (only £1.70 more)

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00E391OX6/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

hmm, has amazon suddenly changed their method of operations?
We HAVE TO use parcel motel to get around the fact that amazon WONT SHIP electronics to ROI?

They stopped that a long time ago. Unless they are still doing it from a certain size up.

AFAIK it was aomething to do with the WEEE.

Before buying off Amazon.co.uk, check the German (and sometimes) French equivalents. In particular, I have found amazon.de to be much cheaper for SSD prices.

For example the new Crucial MX100 is £150 (and a bit more when Irish VAT is applied) and when the sterling FX rate is applied and your credit card charge is also added, the price is just under €200. The same item using Parcel Motel is €181.

Nope, I've been buying electronics from them for years. Only thing I'm aware of that they might not ship are the really big TV's, everything else they do deliver to Ireland.

  • Registered Users Posts: 938 ✭✭✭logic

Been buying electronics from amazon for ages now, anything over £25 is free shipping. They have certain restrictions on what they will ship to ireland (weights, TV's 39" and over, etc).

Bought a crucial m500 120gb not too long ago from amazon, worked out at about €75 all in. PC is much faster now, very happy with it.

Not sure why anyone is tracking the m4 when it's been replaced by the m500, the m550 and now the mx100...

Mx100 is easily the best ssd going, cheapest per gb for a top performing drive.
