Just going by this, Apple Music far behind.

They really missed the boat with music streaming. Tough to catch up

Actually, Apple music has second largest number of paid subscribers, about 36 million compared to 70 million of spotify. I just don't like Apple, the company, itself.

Spotify is fine but if I want to plug in headphones, the high quality option is only about 320 kbps.

FLAC is obviously superior sound wise with a higher bitrate so bandcamp to buy the official album.

Had Spotify but moved to play music. Still on the 7.99 plan, and prefer it over Spotify.

Will be interesting to see what happens all the uploaded collections when they shutter play music later this year.

99% of people can't tell the difference between 320kps and flac. It's snake oil.

I got decent headphones, Fidelio X2. Honestly can't tell the difference between them. Probably are subtle improvements, but vast majority of people aren't going to notice.

No, they're wired with a 3.5mm connector. They've a low impedence (30 Ohms) so can driven fine even from a phone. They sound better from a decent amp though.

You can get an Amp/DAC that are the size of a phone , Fiio E10K is one such example. Some are small enough to be used on the go. Only really specialised headphones even require a dedicated amp. Any recent phone/tablet/computer will drive most headphones fine with their onboard amp. There's diminishing returns though, a €500 headphone will not sound five times better than a €100 one.

But 99% of people will notice the difference between 48kHz and the "masters" section in Tidal. 96 kHz/24 bit.

Only available on the desktop app at the moment but its a huge jump in quality.

Am giving Tidal a month but very impressed thus far. 48m songs vs Spotifys 30m aswell.

Peer reviewed double blind studies have found that vast majority of people, bar a few expert critical listeners, can't tell the difference between 320kb/s and lossless audio files. I'll take that over anecdotes. What you're experiencing is the placebo effect.

Is that new thing included in the €20 or have they upped it?

20 quid a month? Thats steep, regardless of quality, you can get spotify for 30eur for the year on a family plan.

I only have Spotify myself and I wouldn't sign up with strangers so it's a tenner a month for me. It's steep for Tidal but when I'm already paying half that then I'd consider going back to it. I see it works in Android Auto now too.

Nobody needs to be paying a tenner a month for Spotify though when it's only a fiver a month with Vodafone. If you're not with Vodafone, you can pick up a PAYG SIM purely to use for paying the Spotify subscription.

Do you just register the vodaphone number with spotify and pay with debit card, or do you have to pay using vodaphone credit?

I would use Tunein the most followed by Deezer and sometimes Spottify.

People can not tell the difference between fairly high bit rate compressed audio and uncompressed or lossless, like FLAC, nor can they tell the difference between 44.1 khz, 48 or 96.

    No it isnt.

I have a PC hooked up to a good amp and speakers. Both Tidal and Spotify running and was switching between the two. Same songs. The difference between Spotify and Tidals Masters section is massive.

Blind tested it with the missus who hasnt a clue and she noticed it immedietely.

I agree that the difference between Spotify and Tidal Hi-Fi is negligible though.

Link me a study that suggest otherwise. It has to sound better since you've paid for it, confirmation bias.

Are they not just rebranding it? YouTube something.

I use Play Music, had the trial and it seemed good, but I cancelled after a few months as I wasn't using it enough. Signed back up again when I could pay for it with my phone credit. Use it a lot more now with my Google Home.

I Hinestly can't notice any difference between flac and 320. I can get a 90 day free trial from tidal, will avail of it at some stage to try masters.

Its a little louder but not really noticable mostly. Its the Masters section Im talking about though. Would highly recommend giving.it a go.

However the Tidal app is buggy which is annoying.
