“Drink yourself up on to the next shelf in the basement. Drink to where possibility feels infinite and your immortality feels strong.”

It’s Christmas Eve and Sharky has returned to Dublin to look after his irascible, ageing brother who’s recently gone blind. Old drinking buddies Ivan and Nicky are holed up at the house too, hoping to play some cards. With the arrival of a stranger from the distant past, the stakes are raised ever higher.

In the midst of this raucous tale of drinking, craic and card playing, there is a tender story of a family, and of redemption. So, pull up a chair alongside Sharky, Nicky, Ivan and co and enjoy a great story, well told.

Production group is P.E.G. Drama & Variety Group with director Pat Sullivan.

    PRODUCED by Michal Leman-Lemanski
    LIGHTING DESIGN by Conleth White
    SET DESIGN by Lisa Krugel

Orphans is an intense urban drama with threads of black humour delving into family ties and the nature of fear. ‘I hate violence. It makes me cry. Always has...’ ‘This place… They do what they want. They run f***ing riot. I’m scared to get the bus.’

Returning to the stage after sell out performances
    The Ranelagh Players present

    Jack the Ripper
Written and Directed by Mark Nagle
    Performed by the Ranelagh Players

In 1880’s London panic is setting in, especially within the area of Whitechapel’s Bucks Row. The infamous ‘Ripper’ killings have begun.
The women are afraid of being the next victim. The men are afraid of being accused. No previous crimes have ever shocked and appalled the inhabitants of London so much, especially as they know that the ‘deranged’ killer is still free.

In this original play, by Mark Nagle, we look at the persona of ‘Jack the Ripper’, the person behind this persona and the people touched by the crimes, all based on the original letters and documents of the time.

As we de-mask the monster, do we find the human tale much more chilling???

Jack The Ripper returns to stage after sell out performances in Ranelagh this Spring. Not suitable for under 12's.

    FLYING PIGS PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS
MRS. BOB CRATCHIT'S WILD CHRISTMAS BINGE,
    CORK ARTS THEATRE,
    1ST - 11TH DECEMBER 2010

Directed by Laura Daly and produced by Vanessa Hyde and Tess Healy Maguire, Christopher Durang's Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge opens on Wednesday, December 1st, and will run nightly through Saturday, December 11th, at the Cork Arts Theatre. Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge is a playful, skewed look at the Dickens classic Christmas tale where miser Ebenezer Scrooge learns the true meaning of Christmas. In Durang's version, the quietly suffering sainted Mrs. Bob Cratchit has been given one foundling too many and is determined to drown her sorrows then herself by leaping off the London Bridge.

Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge starts out with the familiar tale of Ebenezer Scrooge's visit from a Ghost. From there, things start to go awry. The Ghost's magic is off. Instead of the fateful hourly visits, Scrooge and the Ghost, pop in and out of time and place. They end up haunting the beleaguered Mrs Cratchit who is now convinced they are voices in her head.

Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge peers behind the image of the poor-but-happy Cratchit family to reveal that Bob is really a bit of a nitwit and Tiny Tim is too good to be true. The Ghost has a taser to help her tame the wayward Scrooge but he seems to be falling for the newly liberated Mrs. Cratchit. Well meaning help from Clarence the Angel from Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life, television stars and Dutch tourists only complicate matters for the Ghost. And then, there are still all the children ...

Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge is part pastiche, part parody and all comedy. It is an antidote for those who feel they too may drown in the syrupy schmaltz of the holiday season.

The cast includes: Antoinette Hilliard, Alma Kickham, Cian Daly, Alan Martin, Tess Healy Maguire, Mark Cosgrave, John Ryan Howard, Judy Donovan, Alex Murphy and a host of some of Cork's finest young talent.

    Noises Off

    The Mill Theatre, Dundrum

    €18/€15

    Box Office Telephone +353 01 296 9340
Dundrum Town Centre, Dundrum, Dublin 16

Written by Tony award-winner, Michael Frayn, this peerless backstage farce has moments when everyone – onstage and in the audience -seems to be riding the same runaway roller-coaster.

Performed by the Glencullen Musical and Dramatic Society, whose last sell-out show in the Mill Theatre won two national awards for best actor and best supporting actor, Noises Off promises to be a perfect pre-Christmas treat.

We follow the attempts of the show’s ‘on-stage director’ who is desperately trying to get his production together, despite the best efforts of the cast and crew. Romances, arguments and a fancy for sardines and whisky keep the action on-stage almost as frantic as what is happening behind the set.... "the funniest play written in my lifetime" (Frank Rich, New York Times).

    Thursday 24th - Saturday 26th February, 2011 @ 8pm

'The Clearing' - by Helen Edmundson

Presented by Brideview Drama. Directed by Jack Aherne.

Helen Edmundson's 1993 play The Clearing is set in the seventeenth century during the only time in England's history when that country was a republic. The Clearing is about the cruel treatment meted out in Ireland by those representing Oliver Cromwell's government.

The play was very well received as a new play when it was first produced and comparisons were made between it and Arthur Miller's The Crucible.

Interestingly, like The Crucible, the motivation in Edmundson's play is the acquisition of land. The land confiscation in The Clearing is to pay in lieu of wages that are owed to Cromwell's army. The central issue is the dilemma of Robert Preston - should he ensure the economic prosperity of his family by betraying his Irish friends (and ultimately his wife) or should he stick by them and risk banishment to inhospitable and difficult to farm Connaught?

A powerful production by Brideview Drama that should not be missed.

    Tickets €15/€12 concession.
