    Hi Folks,

Last year, myself and a friend set off on a swim from Dublin to Wexford. The idea being we swim form point to point resuming on any day from the exact point of exit on the last day. We got from Blackrock Baths to Cahore by September.

This year, I hope to continue onwards from Cahore and hopefully get well into Waterford, so I am eagerly awaiting next weeks restrictions announcements.

We raised money for Temple St and An Taisce Clean Coasts last year and this year I am raising funds for a good friend who is seeking cancer treatment abroad.

The website where I will be blogging the adventure is at http://www.atswimtwobeaches.com/ and it has last years swims included as a lead up for you to muse over at your leisure.

I implore you to have a read and enjoy the story.

    KR

Looking forward to following this journey. Best of luck to your friend.

I was in Cahore this morning, beautiful place to swim- hopefully you get to venture there soon enough.

    Thanks Kurt_Godel !

Yes, From Cahore to Wexford town will be a gentle return along the long straight beach, before the rugged Waterford vistas.

Ditto, this should be a good read to follow.

I've worn gloves the past month- can't stand the damn things and ditched them for my last swim, which felt much better (only 1km though)

Why are you wearing a tow bouy? Visibility and/or dry equipment?

Yes - Tow Float (huge bright orange yoke with my flip flops and car keys in it). The process is I drive to the finish and then cycle to the start, then collect my bike on the way back. Visibility, dry stuff and for the longer swims, something to hold onto for a rest should the need arise. I never really held onto it in last years swims but Niall, my partner did.

Suit / Gloves / Socks / Neoprene hat (all 2mm)

A few weeks ago I forgot my neoprene hat and just used 2 swim caps and I didn't notice any difference (but it was a warm day)

Thats a good honest report. Plans don't always go our way and there's no point in fighting with the sea. I'm sure it was disappointing having to bail and walk back but you live to fight another day and the sea ain't going anywhere!

Thanks Kurt, I went back yesterday and took it from there to Curracloe. It hasn’t made it to the blog yet but it was good to be back in the saddle.

And yes as we all know, there can only be one winner in a fight with the sea.

Really enjoying the updates on this journey, doubt there will be too many criticising! After the crap covid year(s) its fantastic to follow any type of journey.

Also, as a triathlete I can assure you aren't the first to cycle main roads in a wetsuit:D Many a beginner has rushed through transition wondering why their time is so good and hopped on the bike... oh crap I was meant to ditch the wetsuit wasn't I?!?

Keep 'em coming and bon voyage

Thanks for the clarification on that kurt. I wonder do those triathletes feel the same absurdity? I now know I’m part of a special club!!!!

    Happy new year boards swimmers!

I am now looking at the Waterford coastline for 2022 with the hope to make it from Hook to Dunmore east early in June and onwards from then to Cork. The only thing is, this summer will require lots of boat and canoe safety cover and thats only going to happen if I manage to get sponsorship....

So boards friends, If you are looking to have your logo and periodic commentary on the website about your fantastic product or service, I would be only too happy to work with you. So please feel free to DM with the strictest of confidence.

Don't forget to catch up on the website too

    Hi Folks,

with one thing and another, I didn't get going this year. There is the slight hope that I will get across Waterford estuary this August but it wont be much further than that.

In other news, I am trying to get the book of the exploits so far published so I have put up a new gofundme which you can read all about on the home page of the website http://www.atswimtwobeaches.com/

Thank you for reading thus far and best of luck to anyone swimming in Dun Laoghaire tomorrow

Waterford Estuary would be a real challenge. Looking forward to reading about it.
