Seen the Bros one a couple of years back, it really is worth a watch, and I'll be doing a 2nd viewing.

It is very funny, although not intentionally. It's like a David Brent type show at times, you think to yourself "they really must be putting this on". But all genuine.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,184 ✭✭✭jj880

Been a long time since I watched Far And Away so cant remember much of the dialogue. If its all like this scene its gona be comedy gold.

After its unexpected appearance and subsequent disappearance a few weeks ago, it looks like Together Together is back, and properly. Will make sure to get it watched in the next day or so, just in case

I finally started watching Love, Death, Robots. Just three episodes and it's interesting. Impossible to know how to consider an anthology series as so far the stories have been completely all over the place WRT tone, aesthetic, genre etc. So far the stories have been very fatalistic so maybe that's the overriding tone - but then it's all via David Fincher so not someone known for being warm and cuddly.

Each story is only 10 minutes long so very much bite sized entertainment. The 3 Robots are great though, so far the only idea I'd be happy to watch a whole series of.

Netflix has begun offering add-on prices for people using a subscription, but not living in the same household

    Oh dear.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 35,941 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

I hadn't realised Netflix were borrowing money for those big ticket films like The Irishman. Lordy but modern capitalism is sorta insane. Infinite growth!

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 17,987 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

Their response to people leaving over price increases is to increase prices..

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 35,941 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Hmmm. I'm beginning to think Netflix is not the tactical genius we thought...

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 23,921 Mod ✭✭✭✭TICKLE_ME_ELMO

Cutting the mid budget films to make more big budget films seems like a pretty questionable strategy. Whether through development or distribution, they're most "successful" films have come from that range, most recently The Power of the Dog, and The Lost Daughter.

But in terms of their wierd metric of hours watched, Red Notice was their biggest success last year. I saw someone point out that Netflix released Passing on the same weekend as Red Notice, but didn't push it at all, and meanwhile people flocked to watch Red Notice, mostly just to complain about it. The end result being it becomes their most successful film of the year.

Obviously everything is motivated by money, but looking at the measures they're taking in reaction to recent losses, it really does look like they're only going to make things worse.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,776 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

So if they do the same here, that would be probably €4 each per month?

Sounds about right. Need to know the exact details. Maybe its obvious how this will work but Im a bit confused. I cant see it being a user addon for 4 euro. Then you could get basic for 9 euro and add 1 extra user and have the equivalent to the standard sub for 13 euro instead of the normal price of 15 euro. So a price drop.

The alternative doesn't seem sound either. Say you have a standard sub and you add an outside sub for 4 euro but that means 1 of your 2 screens works outside the home. So you pay 19 euro for 1 screen at home and 1 screen outside your home? Both options seem daft unless Im picking it up wrong.

It means will need to pay extra for each person that wants to use it outside your household. But it doesn't add a screen. So if on basic and the person outside wants to watch, then the account owner can't watch.

I just don't know how they plan on enforcing it. Like does it mean I can't be on holidays and watch on a tablet due to being a different IP? Or maybe they watch for consistent use outside.

I find myself watching documentaries on Disney at weekends now more than Netflix

Interceptor was good fun. Cheesy AF (but in a good way) and was a real throwback to 80s action movies.

Hopefully this opens the door to more Matthew Reilly IP (and bigger budgets)
