    ‘A New England’ - another classic :)

    Written by Billy Bragg.

Kirsty thought the song was too short so he wrote an extra verse just for her :)

After her death, when he performs it he includes the extra verse.

It's so sad what happened to her :(

    Life ain't always empty.

Bad news: we have to add 21 March to the list of TOTP '85 episodes that won't be shown. :(

Supposedly, it doesn't exist in a broadcastable form (which is quite surprising for 1985). Yet BBC4 *have* previously shown episodes taken from VHS recordings rather than the master tapes, with less-than-perfect picture quality - and also The Story of 1985 featured clips of Billy Bragg and Loose Ends from this episode, which may not have been perfect quality either but were still more than viewable.

And with Smithed episodes immediately before and after, it all means that after 7 March on Thursday night, we'll jump forward a month in the space of 24 hours... :(

This weekend also sees the start of the Winter Olympics. Sadly there's not much video evidence of the 2006 TOTP episode which was they filmed at the Winter Olympics and got Sue Barker and Colin Jackson to present. Winter Olympics Opening Ceremonies rarely give us much to remember but there was this performance by John Denver in Sarajevo in 1984 which will top any nonsense they come up with this time

There appears to be two different Toots and the Maytals docs on Sky Arts, maybe they are one and the same but a random recommendation from a blog here says it/one of them might be worth a look
I’d really recommend a terrific Sky Arts documentary, Toots and the Maytals: From the Roots, about reggae’s beginnings and the intertwined career of “Toots” Hibbert. Beautifully made, it contrasts excellent interviews and documentary footage with his current band performing his greatest songs

    https://fivethingsseenandheard.com/tag/toots-and-the-maytals-from-the-roots/

Finally, the most unlikely Dexys Midnight Runners performance featuring Kevin Rowland being brought back to life of the week might be this version of Let's make this Precious from Big Train (GOLD, Saturday Night 3am)

Even though you listed Sunday twice while completely omitting Saturday, I managed to crack the code.... ;):p

"10pm Guitar Heroes At The BBC (Yesterday)"

Took me a minute to work this out.

    :D

(To be honest, "The Joy of The Bee Gees" still has me scratching my head)

Nice one as always, Skid. I bought Bob Marley Legend again the other day. It's easy to forget just how amazing those tunes are.

Meanwhile, I'm very much finally on the Iron Maiden buzz I tried to get on a good few months back. Bought a greatest hits, been on in the car for weeks. How I never really dug this before, I just don't know. Defo gonna give that a watch, double nice one for adding the youtube link Skid.

Maiden Rock!!! Flight 666 is definitely well worth a watch, and while NOFTB is probably their most well known/name checked album, I personally would go for Live After Death (even if it is cheating by being a live album... :D)

Also really looking forward to all the Ska and Reggae this weekend - about time! I think a few cold ones may be liberated from the fridge while I enjoy those shows....

I forgot to mention earlier, but I was channel surfing last Sunday night and stumbled across this doc on Showtime:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrAvDFmE9i4

I haven't watched it in full yet (hope to do so soon), but from what I've seen so far, it looks like it is worth checking out - a lot of archive footage that I hadn't seen before and it was made with his co-operation while he seems very open and honest about things. Only thing I was disappointed with in the bit I've seen is that the sound quality in some of the old audio interviews seemed very poor at times. I'll post more once I watch it back in full, if anyone is interested that is....
