Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Medical Card/ GP Card

    Hi folks
    I have recently been made full time in my job, 40
    hours a week. At present I still hold my medical card it experied in May 2020 and due to covid it had been extended for 1 year, I haven't herd anything yet but when it comes to renewing it I know I will loose it due to my earnings now of going full time, I will get a GP card but am just thinking if you had to go to hospital you would have to pay , if any of you hold a GP card have you taken out health insurance to cover hospital only or what is best to do

    Any info appreciated

    There are four fees for healthcare in Ireland.

    (1) GP fees

    (2) pharmacy - all people covered by DPS scheme

    (3) ED fee of 100 if you arrive at ED without a letter from GP

    (4) hosp fee of 80 pn if you stay overnight.

    Up to a maximum of €800 per calendar year. So it’s free after 10 nights.
