Someones already checked to see if the new chromecast thingy can do certain things. One was to side load the Xbox Beta app and hey presto Xcloud game streaming on your TV.

if you have a modern smart tv, the apps are amazing, no need for a box or stick, seems like many are flocking to the firestick though, is there a need for the boxes anymore?

Yes, the apps on the smart TV don't get supported for very long

I have this box. Performance is good and Android TV is great. €74.99 is robbery though. You can get newer versions of it for half that. Have a look on dhgate.

I just checked and it doesn't look like there's many deals floating about for these right now. The newer version had the google assistant icon on the remote instead of the mic icon.

If you don't need 4k and 1080p is ok then you could even go cheaper and get a xiaomi mi tv stick.

Lads can anyone recommend a Universal Remote control that would work with the Mecool Km9, Saorview and Sky TV boxes.

My TV remote is failing and I was thinking that I might be better replacing it with a universal remote.

    Thanks

Yes, invest in a Logitech harmony remote. It's expensive, but there's nothing else comes close. If you need Bluetooth and WiFi get one with a hub. You add your devices and create activities depending on which source each device uses. The hub comes with ir blasters that you can point at devices which means with a hub you can have all your devices hidden away in a cupboard or even in another room as the remote connects to it using RF wireless

I have a favourite channel icon for RTE ONE on the screen of my Harmony one, when I click it it turns on the TV, changes source to hdmi1, turns on my surround sound receiver, sets the input to optical, turns on my satellite box and sets the channel to RTE one

Thanks, I suppose the Hub is best for future proofing.

How easy is to setup and assign stations and differentiate between devices.

If I was to stop using it would it affect settings for my regular remotes?

    Edit:
Is this the model . It's Harmony Elite

Yes, that's the elite, I have the harmony one which is the next one down. You're best to watch it on Amazon, they go on sale quite often, black Friday is next month.

You add your devices, there's profiles online for all devices, then the activities are fairly intuitive to setup. To create a watch satellite TV activity, it asks you for the devices involved, then asks you for the sources and asks which does the sound volume etc.

Amazon are saying the One has been discontinued.

There is a One Plus and a Harmony Companion which has good reviews also but are a good bit cheaper. The Logitech 665 is bedt if on a budget but it doesn't have an app.
    https://www.cnet.com/google-amp/news/best-universal-remote-for-2020/

Would the higher end ones above work with a smart camera system.

Have you used the budget 665? If so would you recomnend it?

I've not had any other harmony to comment but you are better to hold out for a deal on one with a hub. Mine user Bluetooth to control a Nvidia shield and a PS4

I think your right. The Elite is a bit steep in price so I think the best option is this Harmony Companion providing it does come with a hub. It's unclear from the spec sheet and reviews.

Getting a shipment cancelled on an android box I ordered from Aliexpress.
Seems it got to Irl Customs and then cancelled.

Anyone seen this before and have I lost out to our lovely customs department?

Am about to buy either 4k firestick or Xiaomi's mi tv stick.
Do they basically do the same thing? I had enquired here before about mi tv stick but the 4k firestick has distracted me now in the Amazon app. Which to buy?

Could be that it was rejected for various reasons. They may have not believed it was the price marked. Or your address may have been illegible.
Or they may have tried to contact you and were unable.

    Have you contacted the seller?

    Thanks Nowso.
Your opinion so is the new 4k firestick of the two I'm looking at.
I'm not sure about Google's one. My intention would be to have all manner of apks on it from rte, Kodi, lots of other such apps.
Google allow them on their stick?

The Google TV is based on Android TV, it has a much better app store than the Amazon one on the Firestick

At the minute it is probably cheapest on amazon.
    https://www.hagglezon.com/en/s/mi%20box%20s
I have seen it on aliexpress with codes etc. But after shipping is added and delivery to UK it's a lot of messing.

An aliexpress seller (shipping to UK from Spain) - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000052453807.html
    code - ES04OCT
You could contact the seller, they are often accommodating, and ask. As the code only works for individual orders (€6 off box I think)

Ebay code PDESCUENTO2020 (€44.99) (setup with Spanish address)
    https://www.ebay.es/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-TV-Box-S-2G-8G-4K-HDR-Android-8-1-Set-Top-Media-Player-Global-Version/284003280205
    Then ship to Irish address.

Not really a box so, it’s a chrome cast dongle.
