Had a light sprinkling of rain in Dublin 16 around 9am. Nothing recorded other than quite a layer of dust/sand! 14.3c atm.

How far does the dust reach in land normally?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,730 ✭✭✭Comhrá

14.4C near Tralee, dusty cars here as well, different colour though, not sure is it just local dust after the dry spell, would have thought Sahara dust is normally more of a red tint . Would the yellow dust be maybe more a sign of dust particles from gorse burning perhaps ?

Nice and calm with some sun breaking through although darker clouds approaching.

    Meteorite58,

I've never seen dust this colour before....as you say, it's always the brick red shade on previous occasions. There haven't been any local gorse fires here either, but I notice this morning's coat of the yellow stuff is heavier than I've seen previously from Sahara plumes. It's more yellow than my photo shows....almost like mustard powder. Here's a photo of some of it on my finger.

Unusual Comhra, almost looks like pollen, not near fields of Rapeseed are you, I know that parts of Germany get covered by the pollen from Rapeseed which can be a nuisance to them.

19.7C here .Glorious day even though quite cloudy we are getting sunshine much of the day .

Tipping around the back and like the middle of summer.

Thanks Meteorite..... indeed that yellow stuff looks like it could have come all the way from equatorial Africa. Very unusual colour. No rapeseed fields near me so must be the exotic gold dust :-)

Lovely humid afternoon in Limk. Partly cloudy, 21.1c & the bar is 992, falling slowly.

Got some of the outside windows cleaned.

The southern rainbelt has pushed into Mountmellick but not into Tullamore at all yet.
Gone from an almost ethereal mist to proper soft rain. Gutters trickling away Daddy-O.
