Mid-policy car insurance change

    So i'm moving house soon, and need to change my address on the policy. I rang Liberty two weeks ago to check the price, as it went up by a few hundred euro the last time i moved, and wanted to plan in case it happened again.

    14th December
    • Went online and got a new policy quote for €691.70 using the new address, and my details.
    • Called to check how much it would cost to change the address, and i was told a refund of roughly €180 was due when i changed the address.
    • Happy with that, and was told to call back closer to the move date.

    Today / 4th January
    • Went online and got a new policy quote for €700.92 using the new address, and my details.
    • Called to make the policy change and I was told no refund would be given when i changed the address.
    • I was told prices change and quotes from two weeks ago don't really count
    • Asked her to explain how a policy can change that much, considering the new policy quotes are so similar. She suggested she could send it to the underwriter to confirm, but it probably won't change.

    I understand policy prices can change, but how can a mid policy change be €180 different, when the new policy prices are within €10 of each other? For an area that is considered a lower risk then where i currently live (Offaly to Kerry)?

    I asked her to send it to the underwriter to confirm this price, but is there anything else i can do to fight this? Seems absolutely mental. I'm only 6 weeks into the policy, so not like i can really leave them just yet.

    It does sound quite unusual that there would be any major difference in price. Is the policy with Liberty direct or via a broker? Its possible the person that quoted you originally made a boo boo of some description however we are into a new year, insurers will generally change rates at the beginning of each month so you may also have fallen foul of that.

    However, given its only a couple of weeks and its a change of address rather than a change of car, adding a driver, etc Id say the most likely scenario is that the first quote was effed up somehow.

    Request to speak to a team lead or manager, explain the situation, ask them is there a record of the previous quote on the system, any notes then ask them to listen to the call recording of the original call to establish where the difference arises.

    With them direct. Figured there'd be a lower amount then what i was told originally, but wasn't expecting it to be zero refunded. Seems a massive jump, especially given how the new policy quotes are pretty much the same. A friend of mine who works in car insurance told me to ask them to listen to the original call, and give me an explanation as to why the quote was so much higher then two weeks ago.

    Will also ask to speak to a manager. Woman on the phone didn't sound like she had any interest in explaining it to me.

    Got a call back and was told there was a glitch on their system yesterday, and that's why a refund hadn't been offered. €186 refund offered today when i got the call back.
