    I am sure this goes round every once in a while but we're all stuck indoors bored...


    Can you list the cars you owned in their day that are considered classics now.

    I'll start

    Mk2 XR2, 127 Sport , Nova Sri, 5GT turbo, Phase 1 19 16v, 106 XSI, 106 Gti, Puma, MX5 * 2, Scooby WRX, S Class Merc ( probably )

    there are a couple of actual classics (30yo or more) in there too, but I wont list them

    so, go for it.

    205 gti x 3 , 2x fiesta xr2 , Volvo t5, sierra Cosworth 2wd, evo 2, 5 and 8 , impreza sti , pulsar GTIR, clio 1 8 16v, Rover coupe turbo x 2 ( tomcat ) 89 celica , integra + civic Type R , 2x merc cl500 that's all I can remember at the moment, I drive a proxy ford transit now ,😷

    Had plenty of yokes that I thought were special, but really the only 2 that would now be rare were a Talbot Sunbeam Ti and an Opel GT. Didn't do either of them justice.

    Subaru Legacy RS Series 1 ( Was a classic back when I had it but needed more work than I could afford to give it due to the recession starting )
    Ford Focus RS Mk1
    Opel Kadette GTE ( Fairly wrecked by the time I got it but saveable )
    Opel Vectra GSI2000 4x4 ( Never seen another one and sold it to hotrod lads looking for a redtop engine )

    Mini 852 ZO 1974
    Escort 614 TIK 1976
    CELICA 495 HZE 1979 ?

    Cant really remember latter life car regs and often have to check the current car reg plate :)

    XR2i (and have one again now)
    Sierra Cosworth 4wd
    Scooby.

    As time went on, the insurance became more reasonable, and affordable. My eyes are watering at the thoughts of insuring some of the cars you lads had. That Horizon cost me about £750 in 1990, 3 times the value of the car :)

    Just remembered, I got married and went for the honeymoon with a Hillman Imp.
    Herself had to push the Imp to start it , the next morning.

    Similar for me - a 1980 Fiesta, bright red - great little cars!
    Able to fit in two guitars, two guitar amps, a bass, a bass amp and three smelly musicians - great times :D

    They used to be everywhere. Then just all disappeared.
    Loved that car.

    Had a Nissan Primera after that. Not gonna be classic any time soon in my book despite being bulletproof.

    Hasn't been a tough transition, tbh, given the really sh*tty winter we had and the mileage I was doing (up until recently).

    It helps that I love the Alfa. It makes me happy. I still have a list of jobs to do (e.g. finish repainting the callipers) that makes owning a car a hobby.

    Well, nothing is forever. You can still aspire to future plans if the love is still there. I still scroll through old Lancias and Alfas, though am more likely to be getting a dog than a classic in the short term!

    It wont be long before classic car values will be taking a severe nosedive,

    and you will pick up the car of your choice for very small money.

    Nothing like a major health scare to put things into perspective.

    Thats not to say I would not be tempted if the right bargain came along.

    Like a type 2 van full of sanitiser for a bargain price:D

    Sanitiser would be far more valuable than any classic.

    1972? Leyland Mini - purchased in Limerick for £150, sold it 3 weeks later minus the rear bumper and one rear light for £250
    1979 - Merc 300TD W123 - one of the first 100 to be sold to the public, still on the road in France with the family I sold it to in 1993
    1991 Merc W124 300TE - written off in Hamburg by a stoned Manta driver in 1995
    1967 Porsche 912 - still on the road - what this is worth now? :o
    1977? Porsche 911 Carrera
    1981 Porsche 911 SC - was being raced until around 2012 when I think it was written off.
    1989 Peugeot 505 - sold to people in Paris, ended out in the Ivory Coast. A car I should have kept
    Several E28's, diesel and petrol
    1986 W123 - 230E - one of the last 10 W123's ever sold in Germany - still on the road, owned in Frankfurt by a collector
    1990? - Opel Senator B - sold it in Burkina Faso around 2002 - probably dead by now.
    1984? Merc G240D convertible, sold in Mali in 2001 - worth a few bob today, but as slow as Christmas

    A fair few E32's, W126's, that I purchased for export.
    `1963 - Extra LWB Land Rover, built for airport fire fighting crews, sold in Cameroon in 1999

    I like your style. Buy so cheap that worst case scenario, you still make money on them. I've had a fair few cars like that myself.

    At least twice what it was worth 10 years ago. And in both cases, far more than it cost when it was brand new. Even when corrected for inflation.

    First car was a 1964 Hillman Imp, it had a pneumatic throttle, bought for £25 in 1972. This was followed by a 1960 Fiat 1100 estate, fairly rare, even then, was a bit rusty, but drove perfectly. It had a column gearchange, which I liked, and a transmission handbrake. Next was a Fiat 125 Special, twin cam 5 speed, wooden dash, cloth seats, disc brakes, really super. Rust got it in the end. I moved to America for a while in the 80s, where I bought a 1975 Chevrolet Nova coupe, 350 cu in or 5.7 litre V8 3 speed GM 400 series autobox, same as used in Rolls Royce ! Got a few years out of it, but transmission eventually expired. You couldn't kill that V8, though.:)
