    BBQ/Smoking.

    Pulled pork.
    Smoked brisket.
    Ribs.
    Smoked chicken.
    BBQ sauce.
    Coleslaw.

I'm a keen cook and plan to replace my gas grill for cooking steaks, fish etc but I just don't get the love of these long, slow, smoky cooks.

I do love long slow cooks - did braised pig cheeks yesterday - I just don't get the whole BBQ thing.

    :confused::confused::confused:

Long slow, moist cooks in the oven.

Not long, slow, smoky, dry cooks.
    Big difference.

    One is BBQ
    The other is just cooking.

You've had some bad BBQ then. It doesn't have to be too smokey and certainly not dry. Try a whole chicken or turkey on a smoker. Juiciest poultry you'll ever eat.

I'm not doing it wrong, I'm not doing it at all.

I've read up on it a lot, watched many videos and TV programmes, eaten in BBQ restaurants and I've just decided that it's not for me.

I realise that lots of people really enjoy the experience but it's just not my kind of food.
I can cook a super juicy chicken with amazing crispy skin in the my oven.

And don't start me on whole hog roasts.
All that beautiful meat consisting of so many diverse cuts, cooked together and all mushed up as one homogeneous pile of "pulled" meat in BBQ sauce - waste of a pig!

BTW, I described the cooking method as a dry method, not the meat. I realise that if it's dry, it's been badly cooked.

Fair enough, agree with you on hog roasts.

I think it’s the fact that he speaks in the cadence of a junkie but has profound sounding things to say. I sometimes think I’m going to agree with him but actually find out he’s just saying words.

Dead skin cells. Those motes you see dancing and twinkling prettily in a sunbeam. You're breathing them in, too!

Imagine if we shed a whole layer all at once, like a snake.

It would at least stop me having to dust all the time *grumble*

Popularity of Waterford Whispers. Most of it tries way too hard to be funny and falls short.

I don't get how an actor as formidable as Al Pacino has only had one good role in a movie since Donnie Brasco in 1997 and that was in You Don't Know Jack.

He's become a parody of himself. He really only has the deadpan, lone wolf character. Great for Travis in Taxi Driver but actually very boring in modern films.

I love Terry Pratchett's books but I don't think they are for everyone. You would need at least a passing interest in fantasy

Hmm. Ive just bought "The narrows" by James Brogden because the introduction on Amazon grabbed me.
Some types of fantasy, I don't get.

I'm not kink shaming. I believe as long as its consensual and everyone's enjoying them selves and there's nothing illegal going on knock your self out.

But I just don't get, The practice known as: Cock Ball Torture!

The few times in my life where I've been kicked or accidentally hit there has made me curl up in a ball and sometimes close to puking. How do people get into this as a fetish? Just is beyond me.

I don't get any sexual kink involving pain of any kind. Like yourself I'm not judging at all, but for me pain and pleasure are mutually exclusive.

When I first read Stephen King's Danse Macabre (his thesis-like look at the horror genre) many years ago, I was surprised to see him frequently refer to horror fiction as "fantasy fiction", lumping it in with things like the Conan stories, and of course Lord of the Rings. I'd always seen horror (or to be more exact, supernatural horror) as a genre itself rather than a subset of another gentre. Of course, it makes sense when you think about it; it's all about stuff that doesn't/can't really exist, so a vampire or werewolf is no less fantastic than a hobbit or an orc.

That said, while I love a good vampire story and have read works like Dracula and Salem's Lot, I couldn't see myself wading through the LOTR trilogy, even though I enjoyed the movies.

Remember before lockdown if you walked arond on a weekend morning you would see discarded clothes, male and female all over the place.
Shoes, t shirts, jeans, underwear, hanging from trees sometimes.

One time I saw a full set of male clothing, shoes and all at the side of the road.
What does the chung wuns be at at all?
