A huge blow to the national team.
Is there not a risk that the RFU are eventually going to be undermined to the point where they lose relevance. Did I read recently that they are in some financial difficulty?

I don't remember seeing that but at this point they're losing all semblance of control over the clubs. With a new, outside private owner I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing clubs put under pressure to refuse to release internationals.

The RFU still hold some cards. The PRL clubs would be in even more financial trouble were it not for the large sums of money the RFU pays them for releasing the internationals.

We were discussing this on the pro14 thread. More money coming into the game and you could see the unions losing control.

All it takes is a financial issue and the union(s) could be forced to give up a stake.

There has been big worries in the uk with brexit and its effect on sponsorship.

The 6 Nations money could be in trouble if sterling tanks after brexit. I would presume the irfu get paid in sterling from the 6 nations contract.

I would imagine the IRFU get paid in Euro from the 6 nations as it is based in Dublin but the 6 Nations may get paid in sterling from some sponsors.

It's a worry and whilst I'm neither a corporate finance specialist nor an economist, I can't help but think the provincial setups are operating a much more sustainable model than the premiership clubs.

I'd be worried about the English game deteriorating into a cash is king scenario to the point that their academies are able to pull youth talent from Ireland but I'm less worried because ultimately World Rugby have the final say on a lot of what happens in the game and they won't kowtow to club owners and corporate interests as easily as the RFU might.

Possible but I would definitely think the sponsors pay in sterling. The 6 Nations sponsors are generally English/British financial institutions.

Classy try from Elliot Daly to open scoring against Exeter. Dummies one man, steps another and runs it in from 35m.

Shaping up to be a good game. Wasps looking very good.

Cracking game at the Ricoh. 5 tries in opening 22 minutes. Wasps looked very good in attack and with their line speed early on but once Exeter started moving the ball and retaining possession, there have been a huge number of gaps in the Wasps backline defence.

Steenson kicking a dream from the tee. Three from three, all wide conversions.

14-21 after just 25 minutes. Could be try fest.

Haskell still saying “we” when referring to Wasps. Old habits.

Crunching collision for Brad Shields. I would be worried about something being broken given the contact and not just a concussion.

Another maul try for Exeter. Wasps have been destroyed there. Munster and Leinster have a lot to take note of in this match.

Truly horrendous intercept from Searle. Slade was just standing in the channel waiting. He had very little to do to take that.

Hopefully Sopoaga to come in now.
