Yeah, you can change the face's quite a bit, but the overall looks stays the same (i.e. young, old, sex etc...). Shame about the lack of gear changes, as that's one of the best parts of most mmo's. Everyone will look identical later in the game in that case, which sucks. I'd also worry that they'll put a lot of costume type micro-transactions in there in the future as well.

From the videos I've seen, that's what they've already done - the main source of cosmetic gear changes is by buying them with real money via the in game shop. But some items apparently give +xp bonuses too. Might see if I can hold out a week or so and get some more impressions before getting the €30 version.

Finally got this up on running on a different comp and it's interesting so far. It certainly doesn't hide the grind with the first set of missions all being "Kill x amount of Y. Now kill more!" But it didn't feel like a slog. The combat takes me back to Age of Conan. I'm only about 12 levels in, so still have loads to figure out and I'm quite looking forward to it, even if I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by some of it. Andrew76, let me know if you still want a pass. I've got one to spare.

Cheers man you're very kind but I went and bought the Travelers Package an hour or so ago, seems I have zero patience. :o
Reckon I'll get 30 quid's worth of enjoyment out of it at least. Now to wait for that download to finish.

FYI, default chat is international you switch to English only in the settings but most stay in international from what I seen.

It's also worth noting that it may send you to the North America servers. I just realised this earlier. I'm guessing it's because the EU servers are all marked as overcrowded. You can set which servers you go to from your launcher. It says at the top where you are and you can change it by hitting the cog/settings button beside it.

Downloaded it last night and figured I'd just launch the game to make sure it ran ok. 3 hours later my Sorceress was up to level 9. :pac:
Haven't scratched the surface of skills or combos but the basic combat is good fun. Game world looks lovely and man is there so much to learn.

A question, when you're creating your character - does it actually matter which costume you select? I'm not sure if I did something wrong but I selected a non-pay costume yet my character didn't end up wearing it in game (maybe I didn't select it correctly). Other changes I made were fine.

Thinking I might create a Warrior alt at some stage too.

I think the costumes on character creation are just to show what they will look like in the different types of gear available. You always start in the default starter outfit.

the inventory space is really grating on me now im level 27 and its like a constant pain in the hole. this game could really do with a guild wars 2 type of inventory system apart from the warehouse storage its like im constantly having to delete crap or find a vendor to clear space. not sure if i like the cash shop price il wait to see if it goes down at some stage but you just get like 8 extra spaces and its only for one character bleh.

    Downtime & Patch notes

    Reason:

    • Resolving an issue with monsters properly respawning
    • Resolving an issue where Liverto Staff did not drop previously from Scroll Boss drops (You can get it now from Hexe Mari from the Scroll Boss)
    • Additional Patch Notes including improvements and new features can be found below.

    Ongoing:

    • Serendia Issue from 1st day of head start; compensation is still being worked on

Initially we had planned this maintenance today for the 16th March, but due to some urgent issues that had to be addressed swiftly, we decided to push this maintenance before the weekend.

The following changes will be applied during this maintenance:

    • Character limitation in the chat window will be expanded to 350
    • Removed the case sensitive limitation during marketplace search
    • Added whisper notice sound. You can switch it off in your game setting menu
    • You can open the knowledge window anytime now
    • Issue with the crop information window has been fixed (You could not open it before)
    • The Liverto Staff (Wizard/Witch) was missing, because it was part of the Mediah Update in KR service. It has now been added to the drop of "Hexe Marie" (Boss Scroll)

Due to the increased "goldseller" population, we are beginning to put systems in place to suppress their market.

    • Items traded 1:1 will become character bound and can not be sold anymore to the NPC (character bound)
    • Previous statement about energy consumption for Channel Chat has been removed; this did not change and remains same as it was before.
1st message = 1 energy, consecutive messages within 10 seconds from previous one have increased energy
We will monitor this closely and determine whether or not to change this in the future.

After maintenance we will also offer the coupon to NA players who played on the 28th February between 08:00 UTC (opening) and 18:00 UTC (fixing the Serendia Issue) to submit a request for a "Character Name Swap between 2 existing characters"

You may register your request on that page for swapping the names of two existing characters within the same region.
You must have two existing characters within the same region to be able to register a 'name swap'.
Registration will open latest by end of 11th March and close March 23rd at 08:00 UTC.
Name Swap will be applied on March 30th during the maintenance.
If a character, for which a 'name swap' has been registered is deleted within this process time, your request will fail and your coupon will be consumed.
Only one 'name swap' will be provided. A failed coupon will not be re-imbursed.
Only your character's names will be swapped. This does't affect your character's progression.
Note: Please make sure the chosen names are correct. After your confirmation this process is irriversible!

We apologize for incomplete Patch Notes. We will update this during our maintenance. And also provide the German/French version.

But we wanted to share some details ahead to cool your heads until the maintenance is done.

    Best regards

    BDO Team

Eh storage is fairly reasonable, You'll get around a full page from the main quests I think.

its more of the weight than the amount of slots and things that dont stack, the only to level your weight is to get a trades pack and walk for a few hours but they got rid of the waypoint loop in na/eu version so its a pain in the butt.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,405 ✭✭✭Lone Stone

so turns out my weight issue was down to me being to god dam rich lol i did not know silver coins had a weight oops. to the warehouse !

Coins are a biach alright. you'll notice it from the weight colour bar.
Light blue is coins I think. Yellow is equipped armor. Red is whats in the actual bags.

Make sure you keep note of where you store your coins too ;)

anyone of you on alustin server ? i could do with a guild lvl 32 names Drezzil

played about 100 hours now i reckon, level 46. it's starting to get a bit boring. if you're not into node wars when it comes out there is not much you can do at all really. all the other activities, fishing, crafting, trading etc have the goal of making money which you only really spend on endless amounts of stones to level up your gear for.... guild/node wars.

the soft cap sounded cool at first, but i hear that levels play such a huge factor in pvp that a level 51 will get one shotted by 53s meaning there's an insane grind ahead of you to be anyway competitive at endgame. i don't think i can face anymore mob grinding, it's incredibly tedious.

also a minor thought - how annoying is money weight going to be after playing for a year or so? will they keep releasing more and more higher level gold bars? i can see people spending wayyyy too much time at the currency exchange. seems like a pointless mechanic.

You can put money in storage though:D

and if you're not putting it in storage... how are you even walking around at level 46?

Few 100k and you're pretty much maxed out unless you've been doing some good strength training.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,405 ✭✭✭Lone Stone

they are releasing the first expansion soon i think and the pvp node stuff i believe, lvl 44 on my warrior at the moment working on making a noble wagon i love this its great but i can see where some people might not enjoy it as its not the usual gear grind end game the end game is really just doing what you like, in a nice guild good fun and knowing there's no real gear grind apart from trying to upgrade my stuff im kinda happy about that no stessy pugs and wipes in dungeons yay.

yes i use storage. my point is its gonna be painful constantly exchanging currency and swapping cash in and out of your inventory when you have many many millions in a few months.

    I don't get your point:/

You can purchase from vendors/auction using the money in your storage and send all sales in the auction house straight to your storage. The only reason I can think of that would require the money be in your inventory is if you are going on an extended trip out of the main cities and might need to restock.

First major expansion is out tomorrow!

Daum Games is rushing to catch up with the KR version of Black Desert so we've got a good bit of content coming in the near future...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,405 ✭✭✭Lone Stone

Fairly hard group areas I do with the guild and boss summons and great fun and easy to organise less stress than dungeon gear grinds really fun so far, and the gear is more about upgrading it with black stones than finding better gear, you can even enhance your gear with special work houses in towns with reform stones and if u find u have to much to do in the q log unchecked the quest types that u don't want to see helps tone down quest spam, lol 51 warrior atm loving it!

I started playing this just after launch. Currently on Alustin (level 32 wizard) I've never been big into MMOs. I think Rift was the only one I played to max level then gave up. But I've already put about 100 hours into this. I can't remember the last time I've put so much time into any game in just a month. And I think I've only scratched the surface.
The whole crafting\trading thing seems to have hooked me and I don't seem to be in any hurry to reach 50.
Looks like I won't be getting much time in Dark souls 3 this week.

I'm on Alustin myself - had made a Ranger & Witch but deleted them shortly after. Ranger just felt off to me (which is weird as I tend to favour ranged classes), quite liked Witch but wasn't a patch on my Valkyrie. Next thing you know I log in to claim daily reward and here's a brand new class -- also melee with a dose of ranged, so deleted the rest (as in all but my Valk main) and made one of those, think they'll be a good secondary for my playstyle.

Unfortunately, with the release of Dark Souls and a few other games on my backlog, haven't played much BD - and when I have, it was mostly just farting around organizing HUBs and contribution.

All of my other gaming has actually suffered because of BD. I only played dark souls for 20 mins last week.

Thing with me is I'm one of those hardcore gamers who likes to do all side missions and extra stuff before actually digging into the game -- but with Black Desert, there's simply too much of it and by the time I make progress I get bored and play other stuff. I like BD but any time I log in, I find myself going on micro-management sprees and rarely even actually do any combat. It's not bad, just not very thrilling, and I can't help it. Very hard for me to say NO, don't do that mission and stop doing your gathering, go kill stuff.

Yeah, that's pretty much all I've been doing myself. All the gather\trade\contribution stuff during the week with a few hours of story related stuff at the weekend. I hit the quest limit last week and ended up spending some time doing quests just to free up slots.

Came back to this after burn-out with WoW-Legion and have to say, the XP Bonus and twenty tonnes of mail giving freebies gave a HELL of a lot of pep to my old Valk. Back in the day (I started when it was released over here), levelling was fun thanks to combat, but very slow (mostly just inexperience as a first timer and no research into my class).

On return, the XP boost pushed me up to 50+ in about a day, the drop-rates have been INSANE, made an absolute monster-fortune compared to past iteration, and I've finally done research into things to try and make life a bit easier. Still find BD very lonely and overwhelming compared to others, but it's still a nice time-sink.

As far as I remember the bonuses will last a few more days - if you haven't already, should consider going back and giving it a spit on one of the three XP+ servers.

I kept playing it all year since release. Somehow got its hooks into me. I've logged over 3000 hours on it. Specialised in the trading side of things. Think I've managed to get into the top 10 traders on the server even after the merge. Even just trading can eat up hours every day. I'm also levelling up an evil Karma player in order see what's available in the negative karma town.

They have another expansion due in about a week and a half. This is the expansion that introduces naval battles.
