The Faithful County's Allianz Hurling League quarter-final clash against Kilkenny at Bord na Mona, O’Connor Park in Tullamore was called off this morning after a pitch inspection.

Both matches will be played tomorrow, Bank Holiday Monday, instead.
Dublin's hurling quarter against Tipperary is off, with the Parnell Park turf under a frAnd Wexford's quarter-final collision with Galway at Inovate Wexford Park has not passed a pitch inspection. It's hoped that one will also be played tomorrow at 2pm, though another pitch inspection will take place this evening before a final decision is made.

Just seen they confirmed this on Twitter. Thought they might have gone with Off v KK as well, would have been a nice double header to occupy a lazy bank holiday

Given the new format in, both, hurling and football and have more games than normal how is the TV deals with RTE and Sky working this year?

From clarification today from Tom Ryan, in a word, not unsurprisingly, no.
Ryan stressed that the terms of the controversial five-year broadcast deal with Sky Sports would remain in place for the duration and indicated that the addition of extra Championship games in football and hurling would not lead to an increase in the number of games that the pay-per-view channel, or RTE for that matter, would cover, keeping it at the present level of 45 live games.

"We’re going to stick with the existing structure of things. We’re happy with how the arrangement has worked up to now and we’re not looking at changing the nuts and bolts of the arrangement until that comes up for renewal," he said.

It'll be interesting though to see what actual games are picked and will the broadcasters choose, or be allowed, to hoard games slots for round robin hurling and football games involving all ireland contenders to the detriment of then having less provincial and qualifier games involving counties down the divisions.

Agree it's not surprising. Ties in with the GAA's desire to increase attendances at matches.

Also would devalue future rights auctions if the GAA said to RTE and Sky here's a few extra matches for free. Replays have appeared on tv though so I wonder what clauses are invoked there. Is there a fee for broadcasting it? You'd have to imagine there would be given the ad revenue RTE make from The Sunday Game Live.

Would have made much more sense to change the competition structures in the same year as a tv deal year but that would require remarkable foresight and potentially manipulating democracy at congress.

normally comes out annoyingly late, just before the station in question is showing their first TV game.
If you're lucky it might be on GAA go a little before the announcement

in the past you could nearly guess it, as the 7pm Saturday plus 2pm/ 4pm throw ins stood out, but the schedule is littered with possible TV matches so its now harder to make a guess.

No, we only know the first Sunday Game of the season since Michael announced them on the final League Sunday. Kilkenny/Dublin and Mayo/Galway

There’s also a Tipperary hurling match on TV according to Liam Kearns. The weekend that the winners of Tipperary v Waterford were originally supposed to play Cork in the football. Football match changed because the hurling couldn’t be moved as it is on tv.

So the schedule is known but as someone else said it’s annoying not published until really late

The Super 8 means there will be 8 more games at that stage of the cship and im guessing most of these will be live so im guessing less early rounds televised, which is good imo

Article here on the current state of play.

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/we-still-dont-know-where-the-cameras-will-be-rolling-469687.html

Over the next few weeks the various channels will "launch/announce" their schedules and all of the 4 provincial councils will "launch" their provincial championships. There will probably be an overall GAA launch of the championship as well. Marketing overkill imo.

From what I can see, there is an increase in the number of SFC games from 60 to 68 while the SHC increases from 23 to 29, so an overall increase from 83 to 97 between the two championships or an overall increase of 16 games, of which only 45 will be televised.
[This is the minimum number, assuming no replays. (There was 3 replays last year in the football and none in the hurling)]

The qualifiers will fade even more into limbo territory without media coverage. The one hope is online streaming here, but this will probably be GAAGo exclusive.
However, the GAA look set to make more of their GAAGo relationship with RTÉ by streaming games which are not televised live. In January, McKenna revealed as much: “We’ll probably look at running some of them on GAAGo so we’ll be able to stream games for the first time, on our own service. That’ll be a new development we’re working on. I think the new Championship format is going to be very, very positive.

“RTÉ are our joint partners there (with GAAGo), and we want to make sure people get to see the game. It’s our view that this is the best way of doing it (game streaming).”

It’s an exciting venture, which will undoubtedly need a bedding-in period, but it makes a lot of sense for the GAA to take further steps towards developing their own channel. The changing market is something McKenna is acutely aware of.
