The storm in Iceland is epic, they experienced something similar a few years back. Its anticipated that roads in and out of Reykavik will close tonight.Imagine being caught their tonight, howthrilling that would be.

Northeasterly and then northerly storm (23-30 m/s) and heavy snow or blowing snow can also be expected with very poor visibility and deteriorating road conditions. The weather is likely to cause transport disturbances and traveling is not advised while the weather warning is in effect. Higher sea levels, waveheight up to 10 m., are anticipated due to storm surge with the possibility of small boats being damaged or detached from the dock. People are advised to show caution and monitor weather forecasts. Traveling should be avoided.

Do Ryanair fly to the Icelandic capital? :D

Mid winter and the darkest days of the year are upon us which can only mean one thing - December is warmer than June. 14.1c.

i was checking flights for new years eve but at 800 euro on icelandic air i dont think so, you can also stay in a really cool former biscuit factory hostel for 200 euro a night.

still probably cheaper than 2 nights in Dumplin.

Was there a few weeks ago and return flights were only €140 with Iceland Air.

Experienced white out conditions whilst snowmobiling on a glacier.. would absolutely love to be there for this storm. Flights to Reykjavik obviously cancelled today.

horrendeus day here, rain coming down in sheets, dark, lots of surface water and side roads partially flooded. Quite dangerous driving conditions in places.

The same storm is affecting western Norway. Plenty of snow, high winds and road closures.

This camera monitors a mountain road going between the buildings here :pac:

When would peak sunlight generally be? Midway between sunrise and sunset?

It's out on it's own showing a colder airmass than the other models. Some high ground snow and a bit of schleet at lower levels is the likely scenario.

So seeing a few things online about a severe storm this Friday coming? Any truth in it?

mostly cold rain and hail showers in the western half of the country, maybe a few flakes on the highest of peaks. Eastern half of the country gets a chance to dry out after todays deluge.

This weekend may prove slightly more wintry.

Mention of possible storm Brendan to affect the South on Friday by "weather alerts Ireland".

    Any thoughts?

I saw that post on facebook with over 300 likes already . Basically a click bate type of page. Met eireann forecast on Radio 1 just now gave Thursday and Friday as showery days with light winds which will begin to freshen later Friday.

On a side note the Atlantic is very disturbed at the moment and getting any solid detail on charts past 48 hours is a challenge

Potential for some snowfall on Friday night. A few of the models showing variation on this.

    Speculative but something to watch.

Yeah a lot of weather over the coming days being under the influence of a fast jet, cold mid level and upper temperatures. Lots of fast moving disturbances as Oscar Bravo said above and from watching the models over the last few days they will be very hard to predict so needing a close eye on a very fluid situation. ARPEGE did show a fast moving Storm Fri night but gone on the latest run..... well not so strong winds now passing to the S of Ireland. ICON stilll showing very windy. GFS was also showing it but not as windy now. ECM was showing the least windy but it is now showing quite windy Thurs night into Fri morning and later Fri it has that system pass to the S of Ireland also but getting quite windy on Coasts especially the SW. Could be windy also Sunday. Agree that opportunists for wintry precipitation over the coming days especially the weekend. Tomorrow looks very cold , showers mailnly along Atlantic coasts with hail and some wintry showers on high ground. Met eireann saying just 3 to 7C. Good sushine also , better further E.

North violent storm and severe blizzard (Red condition)
    10 Dec. at 16:00 – 11 Dec. at 12:00
Violent north storm with hurricane force winds, 25-33 m/s. Heavy snow and blizzard conditions. Worst conditions in Eyjafjörður and along the north coast but becoming much worse elsewhere in the area this evening. The weather is causing transport disturbances and travelling is not advised while the weather warning is in effect. Higher sea levels are anticipated due to storm surge with the possibility of small boats being damaged or detached from the dock. People are advised to show caution and monitor weather forecasts.
