Decking project

    hi all,
    working on a diy deck project and while i have built a small deck before and reasonably handy with diy i am struggling to get clarity on what to do where deck boards meet on this larger deck (60sqm)

    Ideally deck boards should meet on their own joist but i already had the deck structure down (50x225 @ 400crs and bridged at 1500mm centres) before deciding on/buying the deck boards (4m long composite boards). As the deck is longer than 4m i will have to join at some point but do i insert a new double joist at the end of this or cut the deck board back to the nearest joist and add a 'sister joist' nailed to the existing one to take the end of the next deck board ? I want to to minimise waste so means that the joint pattern wont be repetitive and i would end up having sister joists all over the place!!!

    Just wanted to throw it out there in case i am missing something very obvious here, wouldnt be the first time :rolleyes:

    You can put an equal joint on every second board and same at opposite end.

    Depending on the overall length, say X, u may be able to say cut the first board at 2.4 and then the next piece will be X-2.4, and then start at the other end so may only two double ups, you don't need a full joist, a bit of 4 by 2 will do between noggins.
    draw it out on paper first, u may have some waste but it wont be all bits off the end

    I'm planning to replace our 90sqm patio with a deck next year.
    Mine need to come up 400mm to be level with the back doors ...
