Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Anybody had any luck using the phonebook?

    I'm getting desperate now, trying to find my Nana's family as she was abandoned/orphaned and put into a convent in Roscommon. I have a surname and the town so I just picked one from the phonebook.

    It was kind of nerve-wracking, ringing a stranger and asking them peculiar questions, but the man I got was very nice and said his sister had done out a big family tree before and that when she was back from her holidays he would give her my number.

    Just wondering if any else had any luck with this particular route :) I felt a bit intrusive doing it but I suppose the worst that could happen would be that they would say 'no' and/or hang up!

    I've used the phone book to get names and addresses & gone down the old snail mail route with a lot of success. Succeeded in tracing a relative who was linked to a branch of the family where I'd hit a brick wall!
    It's well worth trying this approach.

    Yeah, I've done the snail mail option using the phone book with great success twice. It's helpful that both surnames were uncommon.
