    Hope everyone is safe!

Just wondering with all that is going on at the moment are you driving your classic car? I know shows and meetings are gone but are you still going out for a spin?

    Strange times!

Went out early last Sunday for a hour or so. Didn't stop the car or get out anywhere. With the weather picking up for a few days I'll try a go again this weekend

Driven into work every day this week, in part as first dry week since I got it, and the empty roads.

The fear now is being pulled over by the cops as you are not suppose to be out unless for a message shopping.

Quick question, due to tax mine from 1st April (only gets taxed for 6 months of the year). However, I'm thinking of holding off for the time being, because not sure if we should be driving them out and about etc.

If I declare off the road for the minimum of 3 months, I assume I can tax from May onwards in bunches of 3 months again, and basically skip April?

Looks like Leo has put a stop to unnecessary journeys.

Stay safe folks, hopefully we'll have plenty chances for spins later in the year

I was all geared up to drive mine to a new workshop tomorrow morning to do lots of work to it over the next week or two.
That's all gone up in smoke now, for now.

I actually have got my own back up and running in the last few weeks and was all geared up to go out......I'm guessing vital shopping can be done in a classic too!!

I did until yesterday, when taking the family out for a walk in a large park nearby, or going shopping, searching for bread making flour in vain. Won't be doing that now though.

At least I'll have time to wash and polish it properly.

yes , the declaration period is an aberration, no one knows why you have to specify the period, it makes no difference as you can tax the car the day after the SORD if you so desire.

When the nct runs out on my modern and petrol is 95c a litre at least I'll be happy in a 77 gas guzzler on my open road commute to work.

washed mine but that's the only thing happening,

I wouldn't take them to the shops or similar, I think that sends out the wrong message.

I think it's nice you say that, and I understand your POV, but persoanally I have no problem. A guy admired mine in Aldi the other day, so nice to bring a smile in these hard times. And twice I was stopped at a checkpoint and the guards made no mention of it.

I'm driving about every 2nd day (have to check in on my mother) and alternate between daily and classic, allowing each to "self decontaminate" over 4 days!

I went to the shop today in mine and the amount of people out walking along the canal was unreal, I was one bloke in a car, I think I'd be more isolated then them. I do see where you are coming from though about sending out the wrong message if you were going g out for the hell of it, my view on that has changed, but I see little difference in taking a modern or classic out to run an errand.

Finally cracked yesterday and took mine to Aldi. It was definitely very nice to see how people were delighted to see her and I will be taking her out again!

What wrong message? That i pay my taxes ?

The Govt were quick to pressurise the Insurance companies into rebates: is it too much to expect the same rule apply to the State too ??

I'm using my 88 S124 250TD every week to go for the shopping. The tax was up on the wife's daily so I declared it off road and the company car is up in the company's yard as Im not using it thereby saving a fortune in BIK.

Mine has been needing the spoiler and sideskirt repainted for years. I'd normally be using it at this stage with all the fine weather but decided to use the time to finally order the paint etc and get down to it.

As for the arguement you shouldn't really be using your classic in these times, whats the difference if you are genuinely out on an essential journey like shopping etc? Bit of the sackcloth and ashes about that. Nearly like things are bad enough we should self flagellate on our way into the shop as well.
