Just picked up a Mazda Bongo and I'm finding it hard to find a mechanic who has worked on the cooling system before.
Everything works perfect and a 5 hour trip across the UK on the way home went perfectly. I'd like to have the coolant flushed and system checked over so it remains working well. Any recommendations in the Leinster area?

I have used maxim motors in glenageary to replace most of the coolant hoses on mine without any issues and for a reasonable price (I provided the replacement hoses).
Have you got a low coolant alarm or temperature sensor?

Thanks for the recommendation. The van has neither of the two fitted. Those two items are on the shopping list for next month.
Did you have the hoses replaced as a precaution or as a result of overheating? Out of interest, how much did that cost you? Pm if you prefer.

    Hi there,

I had one hose split on me so I had the rest of them replaced as a precaution.
I have a thread over on the boards.ie projects and builds forum about my bongo.

You should get the low coolant alarm fitted as a matter of priority - I was able to pull over the instant my hose split so no further damage to the engine.

An aftermarket temperature sensor is also a good idea as the stock gauge is too slow to react if there are any issues.

I'll try find out the cost of having the hoses replaced but it was in tandem with other work - new timing belt, water pump etc but it was reasonable and less than the cost of the parts themselves.

Tell them Simon with the blue bongo sent you!

Ah yes read your thread before taking the plunge. Great to hear they know the ins and outs of the bongo cooling system so. Might get them to do the whole lot while it is up there so would be great if you could dig out the receipt.
Did you go with the Hayden alarm or the cheaper eBay ones?

I went with the hayden, at the time not knowing about the eBay variants. As far as I'm concerned it had paid for itself now but that's not to say that the eBay ones wouldn't have. You do need both a temperature alarm and a low coolant alarm though so budget for both!

My aircon has now stopped working and needs a new condensor which seems to be a few hundred sterling. Isn't worth it for me so I will probably blank the rear heater (the long metal coolant pipes are the only ones I haven't had replaced). Worth considering before you go replacing all the hoses.

That's food for thought, my own Aircon doesn't work either but I'll try regassing first and go from there.
Booked in with Maxim Motors tomorrow, thanks for the recommendation. Told him you sent me, was it yours that the bleed nipple was broken on? He couldn't remember which bongo that happened on. Seems to be very familiar with them though so thanks again for that.
