In fairness, most modular PSU's come with braided cables these days, even the budget ones but I agree that there should be the option for the more popular colors of braided cables to be included in the box instead of having to buy as extra's.

PC cases have reached a design point these days with things like PSU shrouds, that make keeping everything neat and tidy super easy to do, unlike the old day where the interior of a case was totally open and cable routing to keep everything neat and tidy, took a great deal of skill and planning. I do feel rounded braided cables play a big factor in keeping things tidy and remember well how ugly looking the old flat cables with yellow wires used to look.

I have a Corsair HX750W psu,the cables are sleeved and covered in a netting thats black and unobtrusive, happy enough with that. I care more for the quality of the PSU itself so id rather spend the extra there than on cable extensions. I will admit i wouldnt be buying any PSU these days that had exposed cables with no sleeving at all:pac:

Like an RGB fan or two,a lighting strip kit,a few bob extra on an AIO that has RGB,RGB Ram for a few extra quid, cable extensions etc It all adds up. I dont want to sound like a penny pincher but personally i just find it hard to justify when i could maybe improve one of the core components instead

I moved to a NZXT H500 from a Coolermaster HAF 912,mostly to reduce footprint under the desk im using,it was like going from the stone age to modern day, superb cable management, slightly more compact and had everything i needed.

Sadly performance is not great so im getting rid, moving back to Coolermaster with their H500,uglier but to me a solid design. The older HAF 912 was fantastic performer for temps, ugly as sin and terrible to build in by modern standards but temps were amazing for anything i chucked at it,including a set of 7950s in crossfire.

I guess for me it comes down to when i see a ton of RGB,extensions etc i just think you could have got a better something or other instead,i guess that may not be a popular opinion, but thats how i see it.

Maybe i shouldnt have brought it up in the PC porn thread though:o

I'm surprised you don't hate my system and others like it going by this. I spent over 1500 on making it look pretty :P.
Could have easily bought a 2080 ti for the price of my watercooling parts alone.
People have different interests. To me a 2080ti is a waste over a 2080 but 2k on watercooling is not. Its what makes us human, we are all different and have different needs/likes :)
I like to have something that looks just right (Still have to order 100euro new psu cables but waiting until 3950x is released to order together).

Well that last build is one of the cleanest and neatest here,so im surprised your surprised:P

Obvioualy i dont think water cooling is worth it though as ive never used it. I think its totally excessive and a waste of money. But at the same time im not hating on anyone using it,its just not for me.

Cheers, it runs silent when idling/browsing, office etc. The Noctua cooler is excellent, rarely runs up, the CPU idles at mid 35-40 deg C. The PSU fan does not even run at idling load, same with the GPU.

Gaming it's still pretty quiet, e.g. the GPU averages 75 deg C running Metro Exodus @ 3440 x 1440 100Hz at high settings. Plenty of airflow with the perforated side panels.

The build was straightforward, bit tricky getting the mobo screws in due to the cooler-bit of a squeeze getting that to fit-I will have to mod the top dust filter on..

Delighted with it overall. Looking at a Wooting 2 keyboard to round it iff nicely :)

Thought I'd share this here -

I've got 3 pc's in the house (MediaPortal TV server , desktop PC and the one shown below )

    It's a Thermaltake Core G3 containing a Gigabyte B450 Aorus M , Ryzen 2600X , a Sapphire RX 5700 XT Pulse and Ballistix Sport LT Red 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 .

For storage there's a Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2 as an OS drive and 2 x 4TB Hitachi Deskstar 7200RPM drives for game installs .

    498097.jpg

    498098.jpg

In it's home on the TV stand in the sitting room .

    498099.jpg

It gets used for all TV / Movie watching and music playback , controlled by my trusty Harmony One remote as well as gaming with a wireless X Box controller

    :)

Thanks to the recommendations of some of the folk on this forum, I've been able to put together a machine for the first time, and decided to rearrange the room so it looks like it's being housed properly at least! Ikea hack at its finest :pac: Have to get some shelves and curtains in now, but priorities!

Had a chance to sort an old desk I had, at last. I fitted some bamboo plywood I had left about as a desktop (it was crappy laminated chipboard), sanded to 240 grit and finished with a coat of Osmo oil; sprayed the metal frame black and fitted a Humanscale monitor arm I got a while back on ebay. I used used an Ikea cable basket to tidy up the wiring. Happy with how it worked out, need to finish flooring & painting the room now :)

Made a wrist rest as well, this is V1, I plan to redo this with some walnut.

If I was you I'd drill some holes through the desk top for the speaker cables. That'd tidy it up even more.

Looks great. What software you using to watch TV? whats the interface like?

Could you post up all the components used in the build?

Moving them to the back of the desk wouldnt really impact the resultant audio and would be cleaner.

For TV / movie / music playback I use MediaPortal with the Streamed skin .

The look and feel of MediaPortal can be changed by using different skins , and there is a newer version ( MediaPortal2 ) available as well .

I have a server / client setup , with tv tuners (freesat/saorview) in another pc , along with a bundle of hard drives storing all of my music/ movies etc.

Below is the sitting room components list -

    Case
Thermaltake Core G3 ATX Mid Tower

    AMD Ryzen 5 2600X

    Video Card
Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB PULSE

    Motherboard
    Gigabyte B450 AORUS M Micro ATX AM4

    Memory
    Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200

    CPU Cooler
    GameMax Iceberg 240

    Storage
Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME SSD

    Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000 4 TB 3.5" 7200RPM x 2

    Power Supply
Corsair SF 600 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular SFX

I replaced the Thermaltake PCI Express riser cable that came with the case for an EZDIY-FAB 90 degree PCI Express riser cable , that allowed me to install 2 120mm fans on the left side of the case , pulling hot air from the graphics card out of the case .

FLIRC USB (2nd Generation) Universal Remote Control Receiver .

I use a Harmony One remote to control it ( as well as a wireless keyboard/mouse )

Was using the Silverstone gd09 case but really didn't like it just didn't fit in anywhere for me and didn't look tidy at all, cable management is none existent and airflow wasn't right at all

    Screenshot-20200108-164333-Gallery.jpg

So went for corsair carbide 275r.

Case was really nice to work with its big with loads of room and was really easy to get the cables tidy and hidden.

Really happy with it and temps are alot better.

I'll put it in a nice frame once I can find a decent one for it :)

Also need to fix that sag.
GPU temps are good though - from 78C (and possibly throttling) down to 68C.
Best of all, the Arctic Twin Turbo II is practically silent at all times!

    Nice job & well wear.

I always liked that Corsair Air 240 case, it's probably the only MicroATX cube case you can get that isn't stupidly big.

I came very close to buying it a few years back, the only reason I didn't was that it may not have accomodated very wide graphics cards at least according to reviews.

It's a bit of a shame MicroATX motherboards are getting increasingly hard to come by though.

This Silverstone TJ11 on adverts would be a good option if you require front bays. Bomb-proof build quality & huge amount of space to build in....starting to talk myself into buying it now...
