What's your experience being gay abroad?

I know in my country, Tanzania that being gay isn't accepted but not condemned harshly to any degree. If I was dating, I wouldn't show affection there but I know many friends that say others know they are gay and don't care.

I think this is the reality for many parts of the world. I don't believe (or at least would like not to) That most of the world is actively homophobic. I think the media shows us stories of places like Uganda, Russia, Chechyna, Middle East etc... where being gay is not only condemned but severely punished.
