Air purifier or dehumidifier for Asthma sufferer?

Hi all,

Herself has asthma and gets multiple chest infections like clockwork every winter.

In terms of preventing these can anyone recommend somewhere to buy any of these?

Air purifier? There is a bewildering amijy of these - anyone recommend a decent one?

Is a dehumidifier thought to be beneficial?

Dust mite proof mattress/duvet/pillow covers?

Salt lamps?
She finds salt rooms help a bit when her chest is stable.

Hi I have been researching AIr Purifiers, they range in price for €100 to €500 & upwards. Top of the range in order- is from IQ Air, Swedish brand Blueair different models depending on room size. Philips AP 3256, vax AP 300. My son suffers from dust & pollen allergies, so you need to read about CADR rating which measure how frequent the air in the room is processed in an hour & room size. Pretty much these. Air purifier is the way to go. I had a strange experience with dehumidifiers, as the air was dry and the seasons changed I got coughing fits. Honestly the best thing we ever did was remove the carpets from the house with the exception of the stairs. That helped a ton. I eventually grew out of it as I got older thank god.

I run a dehumidifier in the winter months as well as keep a couple of windows open all year. Mould would be an asthma trigger for me. You would be amazed at amount of water it collects from just people breathing also cooking and washing.
I would be extra vigilant with bed and pillow. I have dustmite covers that zip over entire mattress (mail order John Lewis I think) and extra covers on pillow cases. Bed linen is washed frequently and bedding aired during day so plump up pillows and stand tall, throw back duvets. I would dry clothes in sunlight as often as possible.
Dust mites do not like dryness or high heat and low temperatures. So with a child you could put a stuffed toy in sunny window or on top of immersion tank for a bit or even into a freezer ( in plastic first). Same with pillows or just keep renewing them.

I know there's a lot of mixed information on this but I think humidifiers also help. My younger sister has asthma and my older brother has allergies, so ventilation in our house is something we take seriously. We were kind of wary when we saw that humidifiers could help but this page helped clear our worries. It's been about 3 months since we started using a humidifier and my sister has been having less and fewer attacks which is a good sign. Hope this helps!
