Providing details as a volunteer

I've been volunteering for a registered charity for a number of years. Grand, no problems. I was asked recently to provide a record of a summary of skills/cv and a postal address. I was told that it's required, I've been trying to find confirmation of this online to no avail so far. The charity was more informal years ago so there wasn't as much paperwork or other details to provide but lately it's been one thing after another and it's starting to get annoying.

Is this OTT bureaucratic nonsense or not? Is this actually the case for volunteering? TIA
