FIDE rating changes

    Several Irish players' FIDE ratings changed this week for the first time in six months so I did a little searching on the FIDE rating website. The following list excludes players considered inactive by FIDE. Players with an asterisk competed in the 2020 Irish Championship.
    The others probably did not compete anywhere but I haven't checked them except for Conor Murphy (who didn't).

    * Sam Collins 2456 (down 3)

    Alex Lopez 2430, Alex Baburin 2416, Conor Murphy 2394

    * Tom O'Gorman 2372 (+27) He also gained rapid points and lost blitz points in events on the continent.

    Mark Quinn 2370
    * Tarun Kanyamarala 2369 (-11.8)
    Mark Heidenfeld 2360
    Ryan Rhys Griffiths 2342

    * Conor O'Donnell 2336 (+32.2, includes 12.2 from a tournament in Norway)

    Gavin Wall 2326
    * David Fitzsimons 2324 (-9.8)
    Henry Li 2315
    * Killian Delaney 2300 (-14.2)
    Stephen Jessel 2297
    * Stephen Brady 2292 (-2)
    * Colm Daly 2285 (+37.2)

    Below that I only give players who competed in the Irish but I didn't check the rating change for most of them.

    * Trisha Kanyamarala 2180 (-13.2). Unfortunately Trisha is now out of the top 100 Girls worldwide but only by a few points and when she gets another chance to play I won't be surprised if she goes above 2200 again.

    * Paul Wallace 2175 (+6.6)
    * Shane Melaugh 2161 (+0.4)
    * Jonathan O'Connor 2153
    * David Murray 2142
    * Jacob Flynn 2011
    * Gerard O'Connell 2051
    * Gavin Melaugh 2025
    * Kavin Venkatesan 2011
    * Peter Carroll 2007
    ALSO RAN:
    * Carl Jackson 1979, Gerard MacElligott 1966, Peter Cafolla 1958, Kevin McHugh and Jonathan Peoples both 1953, Eoghan Casey 1952, Alex Byrne 1950, Diana Mirza 1933, Brendan Lyons 1931, Lara Putar 1930, Leon Putar 1918, Alice O'Gorman 1907, Adam Collins 1887, Dara Moran 1883, Alex Goss (played one game as a "filler") 1833

    We may unfortunately be waiting quite a while before our players get a chance to play FIDE rated games again.
    Maybe if restrictions on indoor gatherings get eased a bit it may be possible to run a few FIDE-rated round-robins (perhaps over extended periods played in private venues) and even the Irish Ladies Championship which usually falls around late October or early November?
