17 days down but I've become a hermit .... My worst times for fags were driving and going to matchs & out drinking .... Im managing the driving ok and I don't have any hurling matchs yet to attend but I have stopped socialising as I can't entertain going into pub without having a smoke out the back .... Tempted to just go out have my pint and smoke !!

Well done! Keep up the great work. It is so worth it in the end.

What always got me in the past was that I resigned myself to having one or two smokes while drinking. But now I'm no longer justifying it to myself that it's ok to smoke while drinking and the cycle is broken. Easier said than done but you just have to break the cycle.

Maybe you could get an e cig for nights in the pub while you're still feeling the temptation in the early days. Or you could avoid the pub until you feel a bit stronger. Sure everyone is a hermit in January!

Best of luck with the quit. It really is so worth it and my only regret is not quitting sooner.

We'll done to you, continue success.

I've been off them since New Year's Eve, no electronics, patches etc. Haven't been missing the trips downstairs in work, fag waiting for the train etc but going for a pint I'll be the ultimate test. I tried a few years back and it was the most uncomfortable experience of my life.
Have first night out this year next Saturday, should I be happy enough if I turn into one of those party-fag people in work that all seem to smoke on a night out? Would be better than the 10 or so a day for the last 22 years anyway or maybe I'm just fooling myself.

6 days off them will stay away from pub for a while as I get used to not smoking

Well done, ten years off them actually ten years and around 13 days.

Food must be starting to taste well.. tastier. You'll have moments but stick with it. I've ran full and half marathons, lost count of the 10k's but everything gets better taste, smell, health and finances.

Oh and don't forget, be proud of yourself :D

Good job OP, keep her lit (not literally of course)

I only wish I had an ounce of will power myself to give up the rotten things.

You cant stay a hermit or away from fags forever. You will come across the strong temptation to smoke again. Ultimately it will come down to sheer will power. Your current attempt to give up by cutting yourself off from the real world is not sustainable which tells me will power may ultimately prove to be a problem for you once you inevitably go out drinking or to hurling matches with the new season about to start. Some people can do it cold turkey others cant. Its just the way of the world I guess

    Hi!
    I've not smoked in 1yr and 2mts!

At first, I was like you...but eventually you'll have to bite the bullet!:) I went cold turkey...the first while was hard, but I had to let myself forget that I WAS a smoker and now...I'm not. I kept saying in my head that technically, nicotine leaves your body approx 30 mins after you smoke, thus I am not an addict anymore.

That said, different people cope in those tricky situations differently...going out is definitely a toughy! My Dad has that problem still...he has not smoked in 5 years or so, but going out was always his weak spot. So, he brings little nicotine mints with him, for an in-case-of-an-emergency situation. Works for him. His lungs...much better for it! :)

    Good luck!

How you getting on with the smokes 3 years later ?

That particular time i failed at 30 days from recollection in the pub??
But i tried on a number of subsequent occasions and gave them up on June 25 2016 and am still off them circa year and a half at this stage....i feel a lot healthier and there are lots of pluses like , not having smell off you, better taste , no coughing in the morning.......but i have virtually stopped going to the pub over been off them....used go out twice a week , now might go out 5 or 6 times a year...
Cant enjoy a drink without them ...and a lot more irritable and dare i say it in bad form as a result of not socializing like i used to ..
