    RULES

    Don't be a dick.
Rule one of boards. Don't be a dick, be civil and courteous to all users. We don't mind a bit of a smart arse but play nice.

    NO ADVERTS!
That means everything from recording studios, club nights, events and general promotion. This is a discussion forum, not a billboard. Offenders get a week long ban and the thread deleted. No exceptions.

    NO FLAMES!
Anyone being abusive towards other members will be banned. This includes racism, sexism and general 'isms.

    OFF TOPIC POSTS!
Any posts which are do not fall under the heading "Alternative / Indie" will be moved or deleted. This includes porn people! There are loads of other boards covering the different Genres like Music/Radio, Rock/Metal, Punk, etc.

    SPAMMING!
Anyone who repeatedly posts the same or similar topics will have all threads deleted and the user banned.

NO WAREZ, COPYRIGHT MP3'S, P2P SOFTWARE, BOOTLEG TRADING, TABS etc!
To clarify about mp3 sites, unless you can prove that they are legal in Ireland, don't post a link to them. All of the Russian websites are dubious at best. I must bring to attention the typical line taken in their terms and agreements of "This company does not possess information on the laws of each particular country and is not responsible for the actions of foreign users." Which in basic terms means it's legal in Russia but probably not anywhere else. So please don't link to ANY site that does not have a solid legal standing in Ireland.

Legal outlets like the official sites of bands (but not unofficial fan sites), record labels, distributors and the likes of iTunes et al. are all allowed.
Anyone who posts looking for links to illegal material or anyone who posts links or directions to illegal sites/programs will be banned

Got a Band - want to promote it?
If you want to promote your own band please go to the Band Promotion forum.

    No personal details.
Do not post personal details such as telephone numbers and email addresses. It's inadvisable to publish such material online and Boards.ie will not accommodate it.

    NO TICKET SALES. NONE.

    Thank you and happy posting.

While I've no problem with discussions of albums prior to their release date, I would ask you all to please not make posts announcing that an album has been leaked. Try and start a thread on the album and discuss it without mentioning that it's leaked, surely the important thing is the album itself, not that it's been leaked.

As illegal downloading is frowned upon here, I think it is hypocritical to ban direct links to illegal downloads and at the same time allow people to post that an album is leaked and roughly where on the net to look for it.

So the bottom line is that you can discuss upcoming albums but please keep the discussion of what's leaked to a minimum. Cheers!

I've noticed so many threads started on this forum about acts that are not Alternative/Indie (Fleetwood Mac, The Script?!) as well as general music threads such as "Music to fall asleep to", "Inspired lyrics" etc which might be intended by their creators to be discussions about alternative/indie acts only, but which will inevitably end up comprising posts about all types of music.

This forum, like e.g. Jazz & Blues, is for a specific musical genre, not music in general - that's what the Music forum is for.

This forum was created for the discussion of Alternative/Indie acts so please stick with that. The genre can be rather vague in and of itself, but it's usually pretty obvious which groups aren't Alternative/Indie.

    Thanks.

I appreciate many people who use Boards.ie are dyslexic, or through no fault of their own, have difficulties with grammar/punctuation/spelling, but to those for whom the above does not apply: have consideration for other readers and those who take the time to write coherently, and please write as clearly as you can. If you post a block of text with no full stops or commas indicating pauses, you will be posting something that is unreadable and you will be asked to repost it more clearly.

And no textspeak - that's for phones, not when you have a full keyboard in front of you.

    Thanks.

Here's a little run through on how to embed Youtube videos on boards:

    1. Find the URL of the video you want to embed - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPfhAksS28g

    2. Copy everything after the equals sign in the URL - in this case that's LPfhAksS28g

    3. Hit the YOUTUBE tags at the top right above the message window.

    4. Paste what you have copied from the video's URL in between the tags so it looks like this: [YOTUBE]LPfhAksS28g[/YOTUBE]

(I've spelled Youtube wrongly above so you can see how the code will look.)

The following will not embed correctly on boards:

(again Youtube deliberately spelled wrong to show you the code)

    [YOTUBE]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPfhAksS28g[/YOTUBE]

    [YOTUBE]<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LPfhAksS28g?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LPfhAksS28g?fs=1&hl=en_GB&quot; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>[/YOTUBE]

    Easy. :)

Now that've we got that out of the way, here's some Suede:
