Purpose:

This forum is about discussing, interacting, learning, understanding, and debating philosophies. Those knowledgeable or new to the discussion of philosophy are welcome.

Philosophy as a field of inquiry has multiple definitions. For further clarification of this field, please refer to the one stickied thread at the top of our forum: “Books and links for beginner philosophy.” If you find the contents of this thread falling short of your expectations, given that our forum is a collaborative effort, please consider this an invitation for you to contribute towards its improvement through your new threads and posts.

Forum Guidelines:

You are encouraged to elaborate upon or challenge a philosophical position, logic, significance, relevance, analytical method, context, interpretation, prediction, historical antecedents, empirical foundation, or comment by a poster, but you may not personally attack a poster; i.e., attack the post, not the poster.

Citing philosophers and their works in support of your position taken is greatly encouraged. Links are sometimes helpful too.

No advertising, spam, pornography, or non-philosophy threads.
No trolling, flaming, or thread spoiling.

No backseat modding. If you feel a person or post violates this charter or boards.ie policies, click the report button (!) in the lower left hand corner of their post and state your reasons in the report window space provided when it opens.

PM the moderator if you need clarification regarding this charter, or for actions taken that pertain to violations. The first stage in the boards.ie official appeal procedure is to PM the moderator.
