I told my Dad once and another time at a wedding he told me.

I popped up to the room and bust out the Colgate, had a half a lb of ham stuck in my teeth, days since I had ham and to be fair to myself I'd always give the teeth a fair scrubbing 2/3 three times a day.

The problem is often the gums not the teeth.
Flossing regularly cleans and strengthens gum whereas brushing vigorously three times a day may be causing damage.

I vaguely remember a B.O thread on here where someone suggested the OP anonymously send toiletries to the person.

Send 2 x bottles of listerine and a toothbrush/toothpaste someone who’s left handed/right handed to write the note

    Dear Xxxx

    Merry Fishmas

    You breath stink

    Lots of love

How do we know the toothbrush was invented in Manchester?

If it was invented anywhere else it’d be called a teethbrush.

I remember getting picked up by a guy I had a date with and he went to kiss me when I got into the car. The smell from his breath filled the whole car and I recoiled in horror. It was the worst I ever experienced and I couldn't not think about it the entire time. It was like something was festering and rotting. Needless to say zero riding was had.

Get a damned water pick.. cleans like floss takes two minutes twice a day, saves on the dentist and cleans under the gums removing all manner of crap.

I smoke and using this with a toothbrush and electric tooth brush means perfectly clean teeth.

As for telling someone..too damned right.. cant be talking to someone who is knocking you out with the smell of their breath...

You must have very small hands if you can floss your teeth in 2 minutes.

I remember once I went to the cinema and there was a guy to the next of me and the ****ing STINK coming out of his mouth ... was ****ing disgusting ... It almost ruined the film for me, I was leaning so far into my other side ... thank christ that seat was empty.

But it was almost fecal in smell ... disgusting, and every so often he would yawn .... F*CK ... would knock a Bombay sewar worker out.
At the end of the film, his mates came up to him to ask what he thought of the film - they had sat rows in front of him !!! - you would think he would have gotten the hint.

And this was a young guy too.

I actually feel sick just reading this

I have tonsil stones and find that makes my breath smell. I'm always conscious of it and try to stand back away from people. Some people I work with insist on standing 6 inches from your face while talking to you! I take a step back and they step towards me. It happens all the time, they don't even realise they're doing it but whyyyyy would you want to stand so close to someone!

I read somewhere that water picks can be bad for gums. I think it's best to use once or twice a week, in co junction with regular brushing, not twice daily.

Arsepicking is bad for you too.

Think it's a cultural thing; have seen this often with ppl coming from other countries/continents.
    - worse is when the same guy having a hygiene issue is the one invading your intimate zone (6 to 18 inches) during work conversations.

Now I don't stand anything smelly near me: but I just can't tell ppl, would just keep enough distance or avoid talking to them all together.
Exception would be when someone I like has a temporary smell related issue (happened with my biggest crush years ago): then I would possibly breathe through my mouth for a while, then start teasing them to do something about it :)

Do you take out the tonsil stones yourself? I'd do that to minimize discomfort and stench!

Btw your breath mustn't stink if people are standing so close to your face :P

A lad I know, we call him death breath. Teeth are rotting out of his mouth. I don't think he has ever brushed his teeth.

A fella in my social club is the same. Brown teeth and the stench could knock out a small child. Lovely fella but I try to keep talking to a minimum because I have to hold my breath around him.

Other than regular brushing, use inter-dental brushes and brush your tongue when you're doing your teeth.

This has a far more beneficial effect than mouthwash in terms of breath-freshness.

About 10 years ago I had a bad case of gastroenteritis, so bad in fact that every time I burped it smelled of rotten eggs. Even managed to clear a crowd around me at a football game, everyone thought it was a fart :-)

Maybe ask your mate are they feeling well, definitely could be caused by an underlying condition they may or may not know they have.

This is incorrect. Brushing the tongue on a regular basis should be avoided as it will cause damage to the taste buds.

Yeah I do, they're not always visible though. I need my tonsils out really. I'm just so paranoid about people being too close it's so uncomfortable!!

In other news I told a girlfriend her vagina was a bit on the ripe side one time.

Turned out to be a tampon that done a disappearing act.
    Girlfriend?
Surely it was no strings attached!

Is there anyone close to you you'd feel comfortable asking their opinion?

    Nope, that is incorrect.

As long as you're not brushing your tongue too forceably you will not damage your taste buds. In fact brushing your tongue can actually improve your ability to taste.

Would you be able to tell a close friend/colleague that their breath stinks?

It's gotten to the stage where when we meet as a group that I have to minimise contact with a friend because her foul-smelling breath is too much to take. Even the offer of chewing gums has done nothing to stifle the stench.

A lot of the time people's bad breath isn't caused by bad hygiene. You'll find it usually happens when wisdom teeth are erupting. The smell will continue until the tooth is fully 'up'.

I'm not a Dentist, so I don't know why this happens. I'd hazard a guess that it's a culmination of the tooth hiding out in your jaw all your life and bringing a lot of gunge out with it; and the fact that they are so hard to brush/floss.

Rinsing with salty water regularly can help. Or so I'm told.
